It's Quiet Thread 15 - Txiki Blinders

Here is a question. I definitely remember articles a couple of years back that the PL and FA were pushing to have the non homegrown quota reduced from 17 to 13. And the homegrown increased 8 to 12. It was a 'by year such and such', cant remember when, but wasnt that far. Anyone else remember that? Could be one of the reasons the club are looking at Graelish and Kane even if there is a premium cost, to futureproof that.
If they were going to do that, it would be transitioned over several years like the initial one.

The original rule was announced in 2006 and didn't come into effect until 2008/09, so it doesn't really make sense to buy Grealish and Kane in preparation for that - they'd probably be in their 30's by the time it came in anyway.

Focusing on bringing through a few more academy kids would be the best protection for that.

No one else think Digne from Everton would be a perfect fit for us? Not sure how much Everton would demand for him though
No

This may be surprising to some people, but there are some pretty good targets outside the Premier League!

Good player but they would want a fortune for him.
I could see us picking up an experienced specialist overlapping LB to complement Zinchenko’s inside full back style on the cheap. A solid 7 who would be willing to rotate. Someone like Gaya, Tagliafico or even Bertrand on a free. Or Grimaldo from Benfica if we fancied spending a little more.
Domestically, and looking at more long term potential options, the kid at Palace, Mitchell, has had a really good season but just signed a new deal. Justin at Leicester can play on either side and was great before his injury and Robinson at Fulham (another right footer who plays on the left) had a promising debut year in the premier league, though whether he will be good enough for us I’m not entirely convinced.

true, but remember it was put forward circa 2018, I even thought it got quite far with a year that it would come into effect which at the time seemed a distant future but now probably isnt as distant. I'd need to dig up old articles to remind myself. Perhaps it all got shifted around brexit.

I agree wholeheartedly about incorporsting club trained players as the best solution, both long term and now too, for CL lists.

Often injured and often playing in midfield when fit. Wouldn’t necessarily be my choice but Pep is a long time admirer and City have been scouting him for years
We know why
It would be an unusual signing to say the least
