THIS WILL PLEASE A FEW HERE.... NOT THE DOOMSAYERS THOUGH

WALES DATA:'

0 deaths - was 0 last week

19 cases - was 32 last week

0.4% postivity - was 0.4% last week

19 cases in the whole of Wales.

Last night they had just 39 people in hospital and ONE on a ventilator.

The Wales data gives support to the idea that just a bit more vaccinating will kill off the resurgence, we're nearly at herd immunity.

Jab, jab, jab!

Good explanation as to why the new variant might be a big problem, but equally may not be.

Much uncertain right now

I’m on holiday right now - you still have that choice. It’s fine and probably a great if not the best time to go away because it’s nice and quiet, the airport is a breeze and the weather at home is dreadful.

I feel 1000x better already thanks to the sunshine and being away from the doom and misery that our media seem to revel in. I prescribe you all a holiday and recommend you get away asap
Wish I could my friend

went out for dinner last night, first time I've been out socially since the first lockdown.

Must have caught the Indian variant because I've been afflicted by Gandhi's revenge all morning. It's like a tap's been left on inside.

matey be careful you don't get shit on your pillow. if you think its a only a fart you will sadly be wrong

My doctor mate works at The Royal says they are already making big plans for the flu season, putting infrastructure in place, and are worried by a lot of the modelling they have had done.

The flu hasn't really been out in the open for the past 14 months and hospitals are expecting a worrying wave from it.

Off to Greece 4th of July hopefully

Short of legally forcing businesses to close again, I don’t think people will stomach another local lockdown. With all the “stay local” stuff last time, I abided by every bit of guidance. They can fuck off if they try and do it again. I like to go hiking in the Peak District and and the Lakes for my own sanity and they’re not going to stop me.

Also, I can’t think of a single thing that’s more socially distant and covid safe, apart from maybe sailing across the Atlantic solo.

I've seen a few of her tweets quoted on here and get the impression she is desperate for the Indian variant to take hold. She is a professor of Operational Research with a background in implementing IT systems. Sounds like she is no better qualified than half the people on here to me.

see how the Indian variant takes hold (or doesnt) in the next fortnight or so. Plus by then, we should be getting a reasonable picture of hospitalisation rates from quite a few thousand cases of it across May

She's a mathematician really, with an emphasis on systems. Has little to no academic background or formal training in any medical field.

Stands to reason she'd be good with the empirical data i suppose.

England hospital deaths

9 with 4 in the NW - last week was 8 with 2 NW - week before 11 with 1 NW

The 4 were 2 from Manchester, 1 from Pennine and 1 from Morecambe.

NW usually has big catch up on Tuesday as reports least over the weekend.

Only 7 were in the past week. The other 2 were three weeks ago and over a month ago.

All 4 NW ones were from the 7 deaths in the past week.

5 were over 80 and only 1 under 60

From her depts website.

We are a team of researchers dedicated to applying operational research, data analysis and mathematical modelling to problems in health care. CORU sits within the UCL Department of Mathematics.
The projects we take on include work with local NHS organisations, projects informing national health policy and improving national services for congenital heart disease.

She's a universiy professor specialising in modelling healthcare problems.

She's a *lot* better qualified than I am, for sure.

Scotland data:

2 deaths - was 0 last week

318 cases - was 268 last week (This covers only 22 hours not 24 but that problem is now fixed)

2.0% positivity - was 1.7% last week

97 in hospital - up 3 on day and 27 on last week

6 ventilated - up 1 on day and 2 on last week

The numbers in Scotland are like England not as encouraging as Wales and N Ireland.

Especially the hospital numbers which seem to be going up every day now.

There does seem to be a group of people that are almost enjoying this and almost wanting things to get worse, not sure why, but it is worrying. Perhaps it's a fame thing or just a desire to be important?
