I think we conned ourselves, Pep included, about not playing our strongest team in the FA Cup and league defeats.
In those two previous games we never really came to terms with their system. It wasn't about the personnel.
Had Sergio scored the pen and we'd gone on to win then who knows, the doubts might have been with Tuchel. But instead we lost and Tuchel knew he'd given Pep a problem.
We changed our team and the rest, as they say, is history.
Kane, or some of that ilk, is a must. It will have the top teams worried before we start, just as it did when Serge was at his peak.

He did but Pep has got something. Tuchel just got very very lucky this season. Most of it as a result of sitting under Pep's high chair as he threw his toast and food around. But Pep is smart. Not sure Tuchel has anything. That remains to be seen. Defending is easy but it wont win titles.

You’re underestimating the guy. I guarantee you Pep doesn’t

Tommy did not get very, very, very lucky, he is a quality coach.

When a quality coach, coaches quality players, success usually follows.

Pep domestically is very smart, in Europe, he loses his mojo, his record is not befitting such a wonderful coach.

I have a vague memory of a Rodri back-pass in the home league game. And Rodri general struggling against the fast press. That clearly rattled Pep and the rest is history.

This points to a new central midfielder.

Rodri's form dipped late in the season, probably more down to fatigue than anything more.

Rodri is a quality player, but we do need someone more pacey and athletic to help him.

The way he set up his team in just a few months to play the way it did in the final is significant. It didn’t come close to getting eliminated against Porto, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Each of these teams plays a different football. And it had a comfortable ride in the final against us. They probably would’ve won against the classic formation too

Mentally switched off for a moment. He's not very nimble. That's not fatigue. I think we are generally in agreement though about him. I can see why Pep had doubts about both Fern and Rodri. He's starting with a rational thought but then gone crazy. He did the same vs Lyon when he worried about our defence and tried to cover for it. He over thinks as his critics say. But still no. 1. We won the title because of Pep, and hence everyone accepts this is just part of his make-up.
