Hopefully he can have a great tournament that will light a fire within him so that he can reach his previous level. Or if he's leaving, raise his value.

Three years ago most England fan thought Sterling was rubbish and most City fans thought he was brilliant.

Who would have thought this would have turned on it's head?

Really pleased for him. This could be his moment.

found his comments after the game pretty strange i have to say. i dont get the feeling he has a lot of loyalty for the club.

Turned in disasterclass after disasterclass the 2nd half of the season, so only really himself to blame.

Hopefully has a good euro's to put himself in the shop window.

Yeah, didn't like his attitude in that interview after the game. Came across smug and cocky.

He played well though

Did Raheem offer any hint about "the reason why he didn't score for the club"?

At some point he should, or he shouldn't mention those secret reasons at all. IMO.

Say what you want about his footballing ability, but his mentality is world class.

He's been continually criticised and is the boo boy for the England team. But played really well yesterday. His pace was a constant threat and he was confident to drop deep, turn and run at them. His charge forwards that led to Foden hitting the post was class, and he ran in behind well a few times. Say what you want, but his run for his goal was exceptional.

He will never have the ability to score every chance he gets. That ball that fell to him in the box... could have got it onto his right he had so much time, or take a touch even. And his end product will often be lacking. But he keeps going and his record for England over the past 13 games or so is class.

The interviewer was a fucking disgrace and she got the reaction she deserved. Contempt.
The manner in which she talked to the other players after the game was in a completely different tone to the way she talked to Sterling, it was noticeable they were also spoken to with a positive slant on their performances yet somehow Sterling has to put up with snide, loaded questions that put him on the defence.
So yes, I didn't like the interview either but it seems for completely different reasons to you.
I thought he handled it great by not telling her to fuck off.

I though he was pretty good first half, a few key runs from the left channel, set up Foden for his shot i think, then had another where it wasnt a great pass but he found some great positions.

Generally the game slowed down quite a lot but thats just the nature of internationals and it was also roasting hot and would have affected everyone out there.

Second half we controlled it well, there was no need to push after the goal. I though Sterling was a 7 or 8 out of 10 on that showing, finished a chance and blazed another one over.

what more do people want?

As for the interview, I think he got a little annoyed that the reported was asking about city and he swatted it away politely as he could given he was emotionally fired up.

Hahaha, we back to Sterling of a few years ago, plays shite pops up with a goal and he’s amazing.

He had a good game, missed a couple of chances, worked hard and scored a goal.

Still, nobody is saying he played "amazing".

This thread would go so much better if you bellends weren't adamant on making everything so black and white.

keep seeing how well he’s done for England

He's playing for England.

I would say that if Grealish had played on the left instead, he would not have been running into the box to get on a through ball to score.

How would Sterling have been rated had he not scored? He nearly absolutely fluffed it btw by taking so long to strike the ball. Apart from the goal, England's attack offered very little, which makes all the fawning in the press rather confusing. The English media really do go all in for the National team don't they!? If I was English I would be hoping for changes in the front three, as they hardly threatened Croatia at all. Thought Foden's pressing was excellent, but he was on his own doing it so after the first 20 it lost its effect. Kane looked like a carthorse, and Sterling had moments but they did not function as a unit.

I think some of us need to relax a bit and take a few hours off from the thread please. This thread shouldn't have been dragging like this.

Pleased for Sterling had a decent game and was always a threat , in comparison Kane looked like a carthorse he makes Rodri look nimble , Foden had a good first twenty minutes then never recieved a decent pass after that and ended up dropping deep and looking for the ball
Really hope Sterling has a decent tournament because our club will benefit if he comes back full of confidence next season , his after match comments were childish , he didnt get chance to score goals or play for us because other players were in better form and he didnt deserve his place. He might be flavour of the month for England but that will soon change if he misses big opportunities he will soon become a hate figure again, the media love to build players up so they can cut them down in an instant.

The thing with Sterling is, he will never get rid of the amount of frustrating moments he produce. If you are willing to accept that he is an decent player. But we should never offer him KDB money he is trying to get with an extension.

Yes, maybe so but he wouldn't have blasted two shots over the bar and kept passing backwards rather than take his man on. Had Jack played, we wouldn't have been 0-0 for so long. He would have taken players on and created more in Raheem's position.
