Messi has miracles at Barcelona in a few seasons, carrying over the line a team in shambles, with bad manager work and a weak team. He is a decisive player, like some others, even in weaker teams. It happens. Lucas Moura playing for this very Tottenham team scored a hattrick against Ajax to take them to a UCL final. He was a killer in that game. If we’re gonna spend the money required for Kane, it should be for a killer in the moments that matter. It’s completely irrelevant whether the striker we sign is the top goalscorer of the league or not. We don’t need that to win titles. Why would someone like André Silva be any worse than Kane, for much less money? What would Kane offer more than Silva to justify the money (it’s just an example)?
 
I don’t see Kane coming to City, reminds me of the Sanchez shenanigans when Wenger made sure he didn’t come to City. City won’t pay £150m for him and Spurs won’t let him go for £100m to another English club, could see him going to PSG or even a cloak and dagger “arrangement“ for him to go to Stretford.
 
Personally i'd just say that you generally should be less definitive about a player when you've barely watched them in 2 games of an international tournament, that goes both way for kane and the likes of locatelli/gosens. just leave some room for skepticism.

I am not saying he is not a good player but for £100m I would expect world-class talent like Mbappe. Kane will be 28 in a month's time. Why has he stayed at Spurs so long?

No but thats where the difference is made...against the better teams (also CL if you want).....Jesus, Sterling, Mahrez Foden will score against the rest but in the big big matches.....thats where the difference can be made...thats what Kun did in the big big moments and thats what we are trying to replace.....

People are arguing that he goes missing in the big games........this stat (though as Ive said there are some caveats like the number of games played for instance as I couldnt find that) seems to back up that opinion......

It shows you who he has scored most goals against.......Leicester are first - he has scored 16 against them, and next out of the "normal top 6" is Arsenal whom he has scored 11 against

However against Chelsea and Liverpool he has scored only 6 across his career
VS Utd he has scored 4

Now again Ive no idea how that compares to someone like Kun when you put it aside the number of games played...it could eb good but on iniital reading it doesnt read great when looking at the argument about him scoring in the big games (ornot)

Most strikers are likely to score less goals against the best sides because, well, they have the best defenders and are harder to score against.

Prior to these underwhelming England games, he did produce 30 goals and 18 assists in the preceding 55 appearances. There's no compelling evidence that he can't make a similar contribution for next season if he signs for City.

I would though prefer Haaland.

i am not saying that you shouldn't have an opinion! definitely if your opinion is informed. but a lot of people are reacting to the performance of the day without having, as you said, followed one's form.

How's kane not a world class talent.. In fact he's not a talent, he's the real deal right now. name 4 strikers that are definitely better than Kane. So far, lewandowski, benzema, mbappe and co aren't doing much more this tournament!
I also don't understand "why has he stayed at spurs so long" as an argument - what does that even mean? he wants to leave because he wants to win trophies. He reached a CL final with spurs, and they finished 2nd a few times, so he clearly thought he'll be able to get something with them.

I'm sorry but £100m isn't that much anymore in football how much did Neymar go for? Pogba? Lukaku? Sanchez? Football is mad mate but £100m for a proven Premier league striker isn't much these days yeah I know that sounds stupid but it's the way football is now. To be honest being realistic if I could handpick one striker now it would be Mbappe. Kane has been loyal to his club can't fault that but he knows now he needs to move to win trophies.

Correct. That is the point I was making earlier. There is a small group of strikers that are actually able to score frequently against tough opposition in the big games. I don’t think Kane is in that limited group, which isn’t necessarily a knock on him, but the price tag being talked about would imply he is. You mentioned Haaland at the end of your post, for instance: he has scored against Bayern every time he has played against them

Well said mate I don't get how people can't say he's not world class. If he was in a different league and he wasn't English everyone would want him. It's cos he's Harry Kane.

You are right, in a broader context.

I think though it is too much for a club that has by choice not broken transfer records and at best has a player in the top 10 most expensive transfers, to pay for a 28 year old. Besides, 100m would not be enough to get him, easily 20m+ short, which changes things, might as well pay it for a player that fits the profile the club typically pay big for.
