The point being, we may as well be in lockdown judging by how soft people seem to have become
This is totally untrue. We are not in lockdown. You can do 95% of everyday normal life.

The problem you have seems to be with authority and being told that you can’t rehearse a choir indoors with over 6 members is throwing you over the edge.

I'm really confused with the whole thing now.

When we were talking about removing all the restrictions a few months ago, I was expecting that we would have the vast majority of people double vaccinated. I also expected that case numbers would be low and staying low - similar to how they were last year.

Obviously the delta variant has come along, but we're going to remove all the restrictions in a couple of weeks with a large number of cases. We will probably "only" have around 70-75% of people double vaccinated too. I'm no expert, but this doesn't seem ideal conditions for removing the restrictions?

Let me say that I honestly can't wait for the restrictions to go, I really can't. I hate wearing a mask (even though I do everywhere), self isolation is really annoying, the constant school bubble popping causes me a lot of stress at home and work. I've seen my childs classes postponed, cancelled and you can see how much time it's taken to get back up to speed when they've re-opened. Going to pubs is a hassle and I've missed going away this year. It's been a really difficult year and I really don't want another lockdown. I will be really annoyed if we have another one.

As I see it, in a couple of weeks we could be getting towards 40k of new cases per day. With the restrictions gone, I can only see this increasing. I wouldn't be surprised to see it going MUCH higher soon after. It will lead to more people in hospital and it surely creates more chances for new variants to appear? If nothing else, we're going to expose lots of people to long Covid too and we seem to be quite happy to expose kids to Covid no problem.

As I said, I want the restrictions gone I really do but I don't understand why the 19th is the deadline date? I can't see any logic i
If we're more or less done with vaccinations what do we gain by maintaining restrictions? I am open to argument.

If it stops spreading only when we hit a certain level of immunity, then you have a choice beteeen a high narrow peak and a broad low peak with the same number of cases and deaths. For me it depends on how many more people we can vaccinate. Once we hit that I don't get what the benefit is to maintaining restrictions. I'd change my mind if we vaccinated children but that doesn't seem likely and maybe those jabs would be better used overseas.

I think you are right to be alarmed at the potential spread post 19th July if we haven't peaked by then.

So what are you suggesting then, and why isn't it logical?
Do we wait months until everyone is jabbed including children and trash the economy further and distrupt everyone's life even further?

I don't get these arguments at all now, there has to come a point where these infringements on our freedom and these draconian rules stop.
There is never a perfect time but if we don't get on with life then what's the point of the vaccines?
Covid won't go away but like with everything else there are risks, some people have gone soft and paranoid to.leave the house it seems.

What infringements on your freedom are there at the moment, Matt?

Mask wearing I don't like but I'll do it and will probably do it for a few months.
I don't like sitting at tables when I'm out and I don't think it's right that the government is dictating to people still about holidays and this quarantine farce. Especially when people have been double jabbed. People should be able to live their lives in my view now and not be told what to do and treated like naughty school children.

Do you can’t see the impact on waiting lists, businesses let alone the Health issues obesity, mental health?

with death rates and the link between cases to deaths being what it is right now, a policy to extend restrictions would kill more
People than removing them.

there’s an issue that lockdown fetishists have that they think that because restrictions have been in place they are the reason why the data is what it is. That’s not clear cut and there is small evidence to the contrary (not a large base of evidence owing to the woke governance of most countries)

It is. We are not locked down. We can do pretty much everything barring gigs and foreign travel. (And choral singing. I mention this as I’m part of a choir and we haven’t been able to rehearse for quite the while now, but understand the reasoning behind being cautious about it)

Foreign travel will be partly dictated by the level of our cases. Other countries won’t be asking us to go to spread the delta variant etc.

All that’s left is the psychological effect of feeling locked down.

Again, you are a liar. I never said we were in lockdown.
I said we may as well be.
Perhaps you miss read in which case I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Foreign travel is not just controlled by our government. Other countries might look at our cases and think, you know what, we’ll wait for the Brits to come over until they’ve got their latest wave under control. The whole world needs vaccinating to a high % before everything begins to return to normal.

You don’t need to sit at a table when you‘re out. Stand up if you need to.

Masks won’t be mandatory for much longer. I’ll still wear one as a courtesy to others, but recognise that my view isn’t universal.

Sitting at a table, wearing a mask occasionally and worrying about foreign travel whilst the world vaccinates itself aren’t huge impingements on personal freedom. I suggest it’s the feeling of not being able to be free to do these things that it’s you more than the inconvenience they cause.

Presumably all those people on here that seem to be shitting their pants at the idea of going back to normal will be staying well clear of the etihad come august?

if not, what’s going to change over the four weeks from July 19?

Why? Why would we may as well be? Lockdowns we’re brutal. This current situation, less so.

The issue isn’t the customer experience as much as capacity. These businesses are still in the shit. Those saying “what’s the problem? You can go out” are
Missing the point

I’ve renewed my “season card” and went on the transpennine ale trail last weekend. I signed in where required and sanitised my hands at every available opportunity. I even wore my mask on the trains and wherever necessary. We had a great time.

Another myth debunked.

It was in response to someone’s comment that there are vulnerable people.

some quote rightly said that they are always at risk and didn’t demand people cover their faces to protect them before covid and shouldn’t after.

My suggestion, Perhaps we lockdown the country to allow a safe space for the minimal number of vulnerable to go out.

having a vulnerability is bad luck and in some cases a result of bad lifestyle choices. In both cases, you have two choices:
1 take your chances, live as normal life as possible
2 hide away

there’s no option 3 where everyone else pussy foots around them

Then you’re a hypocrite for suggesting anything other than removal of all restriftions on 19 July.

As I said, I don't want any more restrictions. I honestly want them gone, just like most people. It's been a long hard few months, no question. I guess I'm saying I just don't understand why now.

I think my concern is that it feels like we're opening up on the 19th because the govt said they would a few months ago. If I'm honest, it feels like they are just wanting to move on and there's every chance this is absolutely not going to go away. It feels like they are wishing it away. My worry is that by wishing it away, it doesn't go away for a lot longer.

If the current restrictions are allowing for rapid rising of new cases, removing them is only going to speed that up. For example, if wearing masks reduces transmission - I assume it does as that's why we've worn them - then making them "personal responsibility" is going to increase transmission. Removing social distancing will increase transmission. More people on public transport and in the office increases transmission. It's the absolute opposite of what we want to happen.

Honestly, when they announced the roadmap I expected 90% of people to be vaccinated and about 1000 new cases a day. I didn't think we'd be about 75% vaccinated and potentially 40k and rising cases a day.

I don't know what to suggest really, but I just feel we're removing the restrictions for the wrong reasons. And if we lockdown again, I won't be at all happy about it.

Not really. There’s a deadly virus out there that is feared by some, disregarded by others and the rest fall in the middle, where you need to have some common sense to help prevent it ripping through the populace whilst vaccines are administered.

We‘re at the point where we are nearly there. We hoped it would be June, it’s now likely to be July With an outside chance of it being a bit later than that.

The furlough scheme is in place until it ends.

Surely it’s prudent to get our vaccination % high enough to negate the risk brought forward from this delta wave?

Must admit I know tonnes either with it or isolating and it is clearly rising fast. No one seems that Ill who I know but I can see it being huge by the end of July.
