Harry Kane

I think Ronaldo just makes sense. Never thought I would say that but age is not showing he’s still an amazing finisher, he’s morphed into a goal poacher which is exactly what city need right now. 2 year deal then see if Delap develops
Our striker needs to do a lot of work and Ronaldo doesn't have that sort of stamina anymore. Finishing is great but it would kill our playstyle. He can't press nor drop back to get as involved across 90 minutes on a regular. Would be quite desperate to move for him

I thought we just needed a guy in the box to put all those chances away that were always missing ?

We can spend the rest of the window trying to get the price down, but at this point we need to do the deal. We know it, Pep knows it, you better believe Levy knows it.

If Spurs really needed to sell Kane, financially speaking, I think they would have done so already (see Inter and Lukaku). For all the talk of transfers, they've only spent about 20 million this summer.

From their perspective, selling Kane leaves them with no hope of Champions League football next season, and they can't get anyone decent in with the money because nobody wants to go there.

I don't think that's a deal breaker - if it was off, we'd know. But it does mean, IMO, that Levy will hold out for his asking price. Either he keeps Kane, or he softens the blow by making us overpay.

I still believe we'll end up paying 150m with all the add ons. What concerns me is that at the moment it feels less like a negotiation and more like a staring contest.

Both sides seem to think they have the other over a barrel, but there's only one club that actually expects to win things. That's why we have to blink first.

Especially after passing on Lukaku and Messi, which would probably have been easier deals to do.
I don’t think it’s about the price, but more about selling a player for squad size

Yeah but it's also a lot more than that. Can't really doubt the finishing quality of a player like Ronaldo but it makes no sense for us to make that move really. He will definitely score loads but quite desperate and short sighted imo.

Actually I was about to apologise to you as you liked a different post of mine.

Smile back at you. This thread has people on edge, hence the edginess. :-)
Ah end of day mate we all want the same thing, a striker!!

Levy's played us for a fiddle, Kane's backtracked he isn't going to force it and Levy hasn't budged.

We'll either pay his inflated asking price or Kane won't sign, unless something drastic changes. It's just a question of how desperate the club feel we need him.

Not even arsed at this point, feel like we should move on. Just cannot believe Messi was available on a free and we didn't make a move, because we had tunnel vision on this. Bonkers.

Kane has absolutely not backtracked, stop spreading bullshit

If you're not going to list strikers you might as well add defenders and keepers to the list as well
All those players I have listed can do a job up top. I can imagine playing with 3 ultra quick attacking players rotating positions during the game. Or 1 big lump with glass ankles. I know where I’d put my money if it meant getting rinsed by Mr Levy.

How has Kane backtracked lol?

Yeah but kane isn't particularly mobile and let's the midfield do most of the work. I'd say Ronaldo would be fitter than Kane even at 36. He keeps himself in decent shape and in our team he wouldn't need to play every minute.

If Kane isn't happening then would we just not do a deal like this ?

I'm sure we would all agree that out succession strategy has been abysmal really - we were lucky with Silva as we had Phil but how long did it take us to find an able replacement for Vinny when we knew his injury track record and the fact he was on his last legs? Unfortunately it seems to be groundhog day when it comes to planning efficiently for our players leaving, we're in the same situation with Aguero and I have no doubt we will be in the same situation with Fern, Walker and KDB.

I really don't have an issue with us paying a sum that suits both parties but if we are on the fence about the fee replacing our record goal scorer with who will probably be the record goal scorer domestically then I don't see that as unfortunate, I see that as a failure at board level to get the right personnel in when we need it and doing so in preparation of key players leaving.

The whole situation screams of ineptitude, its almost as if we had a single name to replace Aguero and then we're unhappy that Spurs aren't selling him to us. The board knew Aguero wasn't getting a contract extension and at that exact moment, there should have been a list of able replacements drawn up and the relevant staff members should have been able to analyse which 3 or 4 would be the best fit and available at a price that both clubs and our budget and then go out and negotiate. Instead, we have pursued a single striker who has years left on his contract, is employed by a renowned tough negotiator while we've watched Messi and Lukaku move and claimed we're not interested.

I will be delighted if we get Kane but it shouldn't be downplayed how horrendous our strategy has been for years.
I wonder how many more trophies we would have won if our people weren't inept

Because he's an outstanding footballer, athlete with insane goals and assists. Hes world class and available for £25m. He hardly ever gets injured so you are going to get your money's worth even for a season
we'd get crazy shirt sales as well.
