I do think an exceptional striker would make a difference but requires them to be at Sergio's level at the very least. The biggest problem, if you will, with Kun was that he had too many injuries. If Aguero had the fitness of say Messi, his contribution would have been far higher than it was but it was damn good.

The bottom line is we have to buy a striker who is going to make better contribution as our central striker than, for example, playing Phil Foden as a "false" nine. That is an increasingly tall order.
Well yeah, I've heard calls on here to just bring in any striker. But they're forgetting that we already have Jesus, so if any old striker would score shitloads for us, then he'd already be doing it. We need someone with world class movement and finishing, otherwise as you say, the midfielders can do it better.

Its like a set of scales, on one side we have the control and possession, the other scoring and cutting edge.
Any striker we buy has to add to the scoring but not take too much off the control side. Very few strikers will do that. And as you say the more clinical we become with the midfielders like Foden and maybe Torres then the less strikers there are that become ‘right’ for that balance. In fact by the end of the season we may well be saying only one or two makes it worth sacrificing that balance for and if we can’t get them we carry on with the false 9.

I think Kane would have been worthwhile but that ship has now sailed.

Currently, unless we can sign Mbappe or Haaland, I am not convinced anyone else makes much sense.

I don't think Mbappe can be persuaded to come to City and I am not terribly disappointed by that fro some reason.

So that leaves Erling.

but another thing we can do is buy young high potential talent and mould them into what we need in 3 years while alternating between false 9.

I think something that's encouraging is that he's getting more involved with general play now, if these first few appearances of the season are anything to go by.

Also, I've noticed that he has that Tevez like quality of being a bit of a physical nuisance despite his rather small stature. Look out for it the next time we hit a clearance.

I don’t say this lightly or without basis. I think Foden is going to retire as one of ours, and England’s best players ever. I think he will eclipse what David Silva did here.

He is exceptional. A one off. And he’s ours.

I'm sure they have worked with him on body strength.

Got to be some of Phil’s m8s on here.

pass a message on to him.

smash Utd & ask Bernie to put 3 Utd players on their arses as we need a good gif

cheers
:-)

Yeah he's very clever with his body positioning to exert maximum influence despite his size. Leaning in at just the right angle when a defender is going up for a header, for example. Just never makes it easy for his opponent. Gabby is exactly the same

For me, his finishing isn't the best. If he improves his finishing, he'll score as many goals as lampard has.

He's already off to a much better start than Lampard in terms of goalscoring. Not that surprising given Lampard didn't join Chelsea until he turned 23 but it wasn't until his third season there that he started hitting double figures consistently in the league.

The only thing I'd say is that Lampard had far more longevity at the top level than most but then Phil looks like he might spend a while playing a lot further forward.

It's great seeing people put these expectations on him at this stage of his career and they still feel entirely realistic.

Foden would everyone a favour if he became as reliable a penalty-taker as Lampard was too

Was looking at the 'game changer' stats. So goals scored that were "equalisers or lead taking" only in a game. Guess who was top last season at 20 years old. Game changer.
