We had over 20,000 cases yesterday which is the highest since the start of the pandemic. Very high given the population size.

Hope you're not too rough with it. At least once it's passed you'll be able to enjoy yourself and relax a bit whilst you're out and over Christmas.

I wouldnt say they knew they had covid, but they knew they were coughing and spluttering all over the place, "saying its not covid its just a cold" amazing how many doctors we have.
far too many people on the sites saying things like "it doesn't exist" or "ive had the vaccine so cant get it", theres also the issue on the sites of the amount of eastern European lads that just dont believe it.

My booster doesn’t show in my NHS app, and I had my jab last Saturday?

That's still pretty annoying. We need to change our mentality with all coughs and colds.

My brother and his missus caught COVID from someone who'd come to do work in their house. The same thing, he just had a cough, it definitely wasn't COVID etc, then two days later rings to say it was. So selfish.

Agreed just selfish arseholes, Im self employed, could really do without 10 days or more off work coming up to Christmas
 
Looks like a lot of the European plan B-type countries are now struggling with a surge in cases, whilst the UK meanders on at a much lower level.

There were plenty of smart arses in here demanding we change our approach to follow theirs, not too long ago.

Agreed - I once got an e mail asking me if I had changed my e mail address and not to forget to tell them my new one if I had. It only struck me later that this only arrived because I had changed a few weeks before and told them and it would likely not have reached me if I had not as the other address was voided. So I assumed it was either a generic request to all patients or sent in error for the thank you for updating your details standard reply. They must send out so many it will be easy to do and with millions getting these boosters I think we can forgive some slip ups.

This one needs a bit of deciphering for me. research suggesting that the spike protien is being detected in the nucleus of cells which is causing damage to the DNA repairing mechanics of the body.

One video I saw suggested that this is down to the way the mRNA vaccines are working but when I looked at the actual paper I cant see where that is suggested specifically.

anyone more knowledgable than I fancy taking a look?

On reflection my gut feeling is saying this is a paper stating the spike protien is causing issues but doesn't really mention vaccines so is just a general "Covid" paper. the video I saw was clearly "Oh my god mRNA vaccine blah blah"

With many years of reading scientific papers as part of my job (I'm not an expert by any means)...

Basically Covid messes with one of our immunity mechanisms while we're infected. The cell clean up regime (that checks cell DNA and kills rouge cells cells stopping exponential multiplying) is compromised to some degree by Sars-Cov-2. This regeime helps the body fight many viral infections and cancer and it is compromised to some degree while you have Covid-19.

The antibody treatment being trialled by Astra Zeneca is showing extremely good results. Its a single shot injection and it is 83% effective against serious illness after six months. It is being trialled whilst the Delta Varient is dominant too.

It looks like there will be several new effective additions to vaccines next year.

That and the Pfizer covid pill are going to be game changers.
 
Has anyone requested the covid pass letter since their booster? Do you know if it will show or not? Just wondering if it’s worth requesting a new one for my gran before she goes to visit family in Spain for Christmas. I don’t want to get into December and find out the rules have changed proof of boosters needed

I'm sure they'll all come back in to reflect on those comments...

It's clear now that Cases spike in waves and that countries are going to have these at different times so any sort of daily comparison seems pointless.

It looks like our approach may see us come through winter without the need for any more measures which is probably the best we could have hoped for.

Has there been any research (I'm sure there has so probably the wrong question) into similar effects with long Covid?

Although I'm not back running in some capacity (8 months on and nowhere near the pace I had pre covid) I never really shook the cough off.
I've just succumbed to a really bad chest infection.
I've had it over a week but it's worsened over the past few days.
Managed to see a doc who thought it was probably viral (I'd hope I could get prescribed meds to try and eradicate it) but I'm non stop coughing to the point of throwing up/almost blacking out.
Ribs feel bruised and I'm totally wiped.

Not sure if it's because my immune system has been compromised or I still had remnant of covid cells sat in my lungs.

It doesn't show currently as it isn't a requirement but it only seems to be a matter of time before the app is updated to show boosters.

As Invisible Man's Bandage has said, it doesn't appear on the Covid pass at the moment .
But for anyone who has the NHS app on their phone , if you click on the your health icon at the bottom of the home page, and then click on the Covid 19 vaccine Record, it should show up there.
