I’d this new variant is so transmissible what’s the point of face masks at all? Surely short of a hazmat suit and going to Sainsbury’s with a scuba tank they do fuck all.

Part of it to me, has always been to ensure that the public also remain cautios. I.e. don't stand right in someones space at the supermarket and just take more caution generally.

They will still reduce the transmission. Not prevent, but reduce.

So, for instance, *if* (very big if) the new variant were to cause a big spike in hospitalisation, that would be a smaller spike if everyone masked up. Not a silver bullet, not a game changer, but one small thing that would help a bit.

What’s the figures on how effective a cotton face mask is? Without any filter etc. as that’s what most people use(d).

Genuine question as I’ve never seen a proper number on it, and my gut feeling says they do next to fuck all and it’s mostly theatre and psychology.

Social media probably and the government wont be banging the drum over it as its completely untrue, not even a half truth, its just as transmissible with the vaccine than without.

That what I gather!

Said it before the vaccine stops you going to hospital and dying if you get it some might feel like total shit for 2 10/14 days others will have long lasting effects from it.

I've no problem with the face masks coming back, I've still been wearing mine most of the time, as there was no reason to stop with the virus still around.

I've usually picked up some sort of cold or virus by this point in winter but found I've been a lot healthier wearing one (on top of generally continuing to keep my distance).

Who has to take a PCR test? I’m in Benidorm now come back Monday have my lateral flow test, do I need a pcr test? Who’s paying fir that?

It's not completely untrue - The data is complicated and it's hard to make an honest judgement with any degree of certainty. CDI in America made a statement that said it likely didn't help prevent transmission, at a time when they were trying to get people to adopt other measures. The UK then countered with statements that it reduced of viral material being breathed in and out, significantly so once the first stage of infection was passed.

Both statements are in line with the evidence. This has been known to happen in science. You have to think, what can you do. Not what can you be certain will work. That's how medicine works. Doctors prescribe you several measures they believe are likely to work. They are never certain that they will.

It's disgraceful how many people don't wash there hands after a pee especially at the matches. It's very rare that somebody uses the hand sanitisers that are scattered around the stadium. CTID

As the WHO has been saying from day one of this. If you wait to know all details you have already lost.

While I’m not suggesting we should just lock up shop, we do need to act on suspicions.
I’d be happy with a work from home mandate too.

Would you shut pubs now?
