Please tell me another lockdown isn't on the cards? Boris has another press conference today at 5pm
A side point but I wish people would stop calling the fat scruff **** by his first name. We never said "Tony is doing a press conference" or "David is giving a speech" did we.

Id suspect this one will be about the change in booster rollout and some more information there. plus today is the day the mask law kicked in so probably re enforce that.

Right now there doesn't seem to be anything in the data to suggest a lockdown would be needed. we have quite a few more steps to take before a lockdown. and I can only see a lockdown happening if the NHS gets battered.

The only way I can see any form of lockdown from now on is if a variant comes along that evades the vaccines.

There‘s no sign of that, so can’t see it coming in anytime soon.

depends on your definition of evading vaccine. three is no sign that one is evading vaccines 100% granted. lots of scientists ( Van Tam included ) have gone on record to say Omicron is highly likely to be evading the vaccines to some extent though, Needs more data to tell how much its going to evade though, if at all.

I guess my definition would be to evade enough people to cause the NHS to fail.

then in that case there is no data to draw a conclusion from either way. Labs will know in about a week ( they said 2 weeks last week ) for in lab tests against antibodies. Real world data will turn up soon enough.

Absolutely, so as things stand, a lockdown isn’t likely.

Just back from Hillsborough Morrisons, where mask wearing has left from about 10% (including me) to near enough 100% overnight. Security guard turned away refusenik.

Oddly Morrisons also busiest I've seen it since New Years Day (Tuesday 11am); possibly a lot of older folk seem safer returning to shop in person with a mask mandate.
Morrisons had the best record earlier on this year. The others couldn't give a stuff.

The invariably excellent John Burn-Murdoch:

Glass half full: admissions are lower than for Delta as a proportion of cases, so it's milder -> no problem and maybe even an opportunity to outcompete with a mild version

Glass half empty: admissions rising at the same rate as delta -> this will be as bad as the delta wave

Glass roubaix: too early to say.

On first glance that, That would indicate it is less virulent but more infectious that overall results in the same number of hospitalisations. That said we need to wait a while as hospitalisations follow on 5 days+ after symptons.

I think any form of lockdown would be harder to get the same compliance again, of course they can shut pubs, restaurants etc but I doubt people are going to stop seeing family again if they tried to go down that route.

Short of parking army tanks on the M6, nothing is stopping me and my mrs from going to see her family for Christmas in Surrey.

If they try and roll out the "stay at home" bollocks again, it's getting ignored.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. If wearing a mask is mandatory, and someone knowingly decides they don't want to and know a fixed fine is the upshot, don't see how this could be challenged. Policing will be neigh on impossible mind.
As I Said its from a barrister,so Il take his side of the fence,if he says the fines are unenforceable that's good enough for me
