If they are able to pay up in a reasonable manor aka not paying 10 quid a year etc i'm fine. If Barca have been given any favourable consideration though i would be furious. You don't tap a player up in public along with all the other shit they have flung at us in previous seasons and get your arse wiped by us.

I will hold judgement but if they do get any favourable consideration i will have a very strong opinion on Soriano, Txiki, whoever greased the wheels as a favour to Barca. We owe them absolutely nothing besides straight down the line business relationships regarding transfers.

I thought they valued Torres at 40m euro's? or so the reports say. If our valuation is 70m gbp/eur? then that seems like a pretty big difference in valuation to me.

I get Pep may be mates with Laporta but they have gone public with this under his stewardship, not Bartomeu's.

Anyway lets see how it goes.

I'm still extremely sceptical that Barcelona have the necessary funds to do a deal, but the story does seem to be gathering momentum. Surely we must be looking to sign a striker in January if we allow Torres to leave.

Agree, if we are contemplating letting him go, someone will be lined up somewhere to push some button on.

I still struggle to beleive it, I think Barcelona will pound their chests, get momentum on it, frustrate everyone, lay ground work for the summer and then go again.

And for people thinking our heirarchy are somehow enabling that behaviour because of their links, Barcelona have been doing that for years with other clubs. Fabregas, Pique, Sanchez, Suarez, Dembele etc etc.

At last iv found the Torres thread.
Iv been reading about him for ages now on the Haaland thread

All info seems to be coming from the Barca end. I don’t doubt they want him but we are under no pressure to sell.

We won’t be helping anyone out…why would we?

Torres has just been voted Spain’s best player so Barca have to offer a fee that takes that into account plus his age and contract status.

If we sell its because we think their offer is good and we have a replacement.

If Barca don’t have the cash (and how can they) they will have to offer us a player we want. If they want to keep the players we want then Torres stays.

Similar situation to Laporte and he is still here.

Shame to lose a promising player. We run this risk when we continue to buy Spanish players.

Maybe it’s time we stayed away from Spain. It’s not worth the hassle as the player will always want to return to Barca/Madrid.

David Silva being the exception.

Eric Garcia all over again. The player and Barcelona playing silly buggers and dragging it out in the press.

And it's maddening to me that Guardiola and his pals in the boardroom continue to play nice with Barcelona. They need to get it through their skulls that they don't work for them anymore.

So my feelings are the same. Fuck him, fuck Barca, if he wants to go fine but let the little fanny rot in the reserves until he does.
Eric Garcia wanted to go, they made an offer, we told them to fuck off!
They waited and got an average player for free.
We sold them no one over the summer Despite lots of stories
Now we have probably done the same, they have made an offer, we told them what we will accept and now it’s with them.
Difference is he has a long contract, so it’s simple

The problem with these reports is we know Barcelona can't afford €70m in January, so unless they've lined up some pretty big sales no one knows about, the only way the negotiations are getting closer together is if we're lowering the price...

I find these rumours have come out of nowhere then over the last 10 days or so they are all we have heard about. When did we develop a special relationship with Barcelona? As I commented with Garcia it is understandable that a young lad will want to be nearer his family after living through a pandemic that has restricted movement. I wonder if all of this will cause a slight change in the clubs approach in the future.

I don't think they are out of nowhere as such. I think the clubs have been talking for a while, butnthe journalists that had a gonat guessing put the wrong 2 and 2 together. It was taken for granted they were negotiating for Sterling, and his contract situation and comments made it an easy link. But maybe it was over Torres, and that has only just come out in the last 10 or so days.

And how it has come out, and what it says should be telling where things are.

If indeed they were 'close' to an agreement and it was progressing well, there would be absolutely no need at all to promote that. Barcelona are pushing it through the media, as usual.

We won’t lose him if we don‘t like the offer. Think Laporte or Bernardo.

Just Barca trying anything they can to get players cheap.
