Aside from the fact that pandemics are designated by the World (clue's in the name) Health Organisation on the basis of widespread transmission across a wide region or multiple continents, there are 1,000 people a week dying in the UK as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

A pandemic is defined on the global situation, not the UK situation.

So you're straightforwardly wrong; what's happening in the UK is irrelevant to whether there's a pandemic.

You're also wrong about the covid position in the UK. It's very obviously not yet endemic given that cases rocketed midsummer, and right now there's a variant doubling every 3 days.

Cases rocketed midsummer as society returned to normal and have remained at roughly the same level since, fluctuating slightly. Endemic.

I’m not suggesting this is true, but very convenient that they have found this a day after saying 2 jabs don’t offer much protection. Haven’t they just put their prices up? All seems very convenient.

Pandemic = "(of a disease) prevalent over a whole country or the world."

It would be an epidemic in a country, pandemic if it covered the world.
Pandemic was never a phrase used till Covid. With Flu it was always epidemic even if it came from Hong Kong or Asia.

yeah the last few weeks have shifted that goal post in Europe. but generally for the last 6 months its been correct.

Not true at all. The UK tests far more than anyone else in the world AND Russia has had more deaths per million than us for yonks and Eastern Europe overtook us at the end of October.
