F1 Season 2021

So the FIA admit it is entirely up to Masi to use his discretion as he sees fit.

Who wants to watch a sport like that?

We are already seeing it in football being used against City with VAR.

Completely open to abuse and someone in an office using their own interpretations to get the desired result, regardless of footage and rules.

I'll leave F1 now to the cunts who wouldn't know their Senna from Senakot.
Match commander, anyone?

The wrong bit of 48.12 is being discussed. It is not any/all that matters but the black and white timing.

The regulation is explicit about when the race can be restarted.

It states: “Unless the clerk of the course considers the presence of the safety car is still necessary, once the last lapped car has passed the leader the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap.

The lapped cars unlapped themselves on lap 57 so the safety car should not have come in until lap 58, which was the end of the race

That is 100% clear and shows how fucked up the whole thing was

Spot on.

Let’s allow them to say just the 5 cars can unlap themselves, the safety car should still not go in until the next fucking lap.

It’s ridiculous

if that is sport then WWF wrestling should be in the olympics. I don’t care who wins, have no emotional connection to any driver since James Hunt, but for any driver to win like that is very hollow.

I think some of the other drivers are saying that if that was any other point in the race calendar it wouldn’t have finished based on that as hoc decision. Bizarre and embarrassingly unsporting.

Was quite happy when they said let them race after what had been a dull race, but very wrong in the grand scheme of things, rules should be set in stone and not open to interpretation.

So the next time Hamilton gets a 12 second lead, the race director can send a safety car out and let them all bunch up again.

Not against the rules, the race director now has the final say apparently.
Yep, the clue is in the name, a bit like a film director, they’ll curate for maximum entertainment, WWF style.

I’m not going to waste my time with it next season and it’ll be interesting to see if it has any viewing impact beyond what F1 may see as an orchestrated grudge match pulling the punters in, heavyweight boxing style.

Because it's a potential underlying factor.

Saudis/Bahrain will be putting pressure on Liberty media because he has highlighted issues in those countries and if LM want the mega bucks they will bow down to them.

Vettal has been doing the same with equality but his work isn't as highlighted. Partly because he's not a challenger anymore.
Ok , are you non binary gender neutral ?

Looking forward to this coming to football:

City 2-0 up.

United get a penalty.

Mike Dean decides it's worth 3 if they score it.

Alright it's not right for the sport but it's great drama right?...right?
It’s good for the sport as it earns the holder, and it’s shareholders, a better deal going forward.

That‘so why nothing will be said, exactly like in football, our broadcasters and written media air brushing any controversy in relation to the chosen clubs and upholding those that aren’t the flavour of the sponsors.

"any cars lapped by the leader will be required "

"Any person found on the train without a ticket will be required to leave the train at the next station."
Inspector "Can I see your ticket?"
Me " Any does not mean all".
Inspector "As you were then".
Still makes it a baffling decision to let them unlap up to Verstappen, unless they wanted to hand him a massive, unfair advantage.

i think they will take it to court even knowing they will still lose ?
because they will want to make it a big issue and a statement vs FIA to never do that sort of thing again or else they will pull out of F1 for good. they will also want the rules changing and taking the race control out of the race director hands and maybe changing it to a panel with clear rules

Yeah that’s a fair comment if it makes them change rules to fact not movable rules.

You know the sport is dead when the discussion after each race is not about racing. Just like football talk is less and less about football. Two ruined sports that unfortunately are engrained parts of millions of peoples’ lives. Difficult to abandon them even though you know they’re crap.
Do that many people like F1?

Have to say a very magnanimous Lewis Hamilton today. Went up in my estimations. He is probably livid but didn’t let it show and will come back all the better for that. Hats off to him.

Thank god they let yesterday’s go ;)

Same Masi who 5 minutes earlier said they can't unlap, utterly bent.

I've arbitrarily decided you get a 3 month ban unless we sign Haaland and Virat Kohli in January, even if your videos for the whole month indicate that we're only getting a new pie supplier.

Agree about Hamilton, think his Dad was instrumental there, gone up in my estimation too, stayed on the podium during the celebrations, took a lot to do that after Verstappen walked off last week.

His behaviour today both on and off the track has been exemplary and a shining example of how a champion behaves.

However, I can't leave without saying that Hamilton led that race from the 1st to the 57th lap, and would have won the race, without the intervention of the race director, who made a decision in contravention of the FIA's own rules, in order to favour one driver over the other. No blame on Max, enjoy your title.
That's a tad unfair, the reason it ended as it did was that Latifi crashed with 5 laps to go, what followed was a farce, but Latifi crashing was the catalyst to all this shite, and shouldn't be forgotten.

I don’t think it is a hollow victory for Max. I think if you look at the full season it would be hard to claim that Max is not a deserving winner overall. He didn’t actually do anything wrong either. He took advantage of a situation that never should have happened.

However, despite Max’s brilliance at times this season, Lewis fought back and went into the final race in a winner takes all scenario. Again, I don’t think anyone could argue that Lewis did not deserve to win that race today.

The reality of the situation is that the race director abandoned sporting integrity for entertainment. The fact Mercedes protests have been rejected shows that it’s an acceptable thing in F1.

It does beg the question of whether this happens in other sports. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if referees in football are told to give favourable decisions to sides to make the PL exciting. When we pipped Liverpool to the league a few seasons ago, they had many dodgy decisions in their favour which kept the title race going.
