Be careful what videos you watch about this. I ended up seeing one of a blown up Russian tank with a dead Russian soldier lying next to it so there's some grim stuff out there at the moment.
The Congo
Meanwhile, guess who said this just the other day?
"The US has decided that it is necessary to send US and other Nato troops to Russia’s borders.
"As I have said elsewhere, this alone should tell us that the claims that Russia is the aggressor here should be treated very sceptically.
"The destabilisation of the entire region comes from the continued eastward expansion of Nato.

Doesn't exist?
There's The Democratic Republic of Congo, or The Republic of Congo, two different countries.
Which is why things like The Ukraine/Ukraine matter...
Not so sure about that. Like @domalino has said, they have the internet however I suspect a large proportion of the population are conditioned to assume news from outside Russia is western propaganda in much the same way that Fox News is the only news channel that nearly half of Americans have been conditioned to believe. And lets them hear

You only have to look at Brexit for the misinformation, on both sides, to see it's not as clear cut as you suggest. It's no 1950 any more. Russia has the internet, they have access to outside news sources, the iron curtain hasn't existed for 30 years - they found ways to get news from the outside during the height of Stalin's reign, they have it in abundance now.
If they believe the propaganda it's because they choose to.
NoDidn't the powers that be make an agreement with Ukraine that if they agree to give up their nukes that we'd treat them as if they were a NATO member?
A lot of people seem keen to make this point but I wonder how relevant it is. We happily talk about the UK, the Netherlands, and the US without delegitimising their existence as sovereign states. It is Ukraine. Not The Ukraine.
Not aimed at just you, and apologies for what seems a petty and meaningless remark. It isn't. It is pretty fucking significant, particularly at this point when it's entire sovereignty and identity is being fannied about with.
So they both have "The" before them? I never said it doesn't matter I said that it wasn't unusual.
Fancy a holiday in the Sudan after this shenanigans to refuel the old batteries.
Doesn't phase me any of that mate, grew up on the internet seen it all unfortunately.
Putin on Russian state TV?
Belarus is a puppet state aiding and abetting Putin
Are you going to Sudan or South Sudan?
Your three examples are countries that consist of multiple entities. Ukraine is a single entity that grammatically doesn't need a "The".A lot of people seem keen to make this point but I wonder how relevant it is. I think one of the African nations uniquely officially has ‘The’ at the start of its title in a territorial sense (referring to the river). Can’t remember which one, The Gambia, The Congo, maybe.
Many other nations proudly have ‘The’ at the beginning in their official names, although generally in a non-territorial sense. Our own ‘The United Kingdom of…’ and various others: ‘The people’s democratic…’ etc.
