The Pro Road Cycling Thread

Anyone else see Strade Bianchi today? Those scenes 99km out when en masse half the field were blown off their bikes by cross-winds were incredible. I can’t recall ever having seen the like before. Alaphilippe was particularly spectacular.

In terms of the “race”, Pogacar going 49km was a sight to behold; just a shame some of the other ‘top 5’ weren’t there. I understand he is planning to ride MSR and Flanders though, so they should be even more epic than usual if that does happen.

He blitzed that today; he’s already done Grand Tour plus 2 monuments in one season; so great to see the top guns riding every type of race; as for winning MSR or RVF I’d love to see Nibali win one more MSR and Pog win Flanders.

Cav just won Milan - Torino
1st Britain to do so.
Cheers Bob! Only just seen this; it has completely passed me by.

As a past MSR winner be interesting to see how he gets on; I’m assuming he will get picked!
I think it could be like a who’s who /World Champs tomorrow; Pog Rog, van Aert, Alaphillipe, they’re all gonna be there. The longest pro race, it’s a marathon to watch but such an incredible finale once they reach the coast. All roads lead to the Poggio!

Wonderful finale today; just watched the last hour back. To win by attacking on the descent is insane stuff tbh. Fascinating he let the cat out of the bag post race by telling us all about the difference his electronically adjustable seat post made … that’s gonna cause an immediate tech revolution imho - either that of the UCI will change the rules to ban them!

first I have heard of that tech, that will be looked at I am sure, missed the race will have to catch up on GCN

Passed me by too; I always thought it was raced same week as Lombardy; great that Cav won! MSR was a superb final descent reminiscent of Kelly absolutely flying down circa 1990 I think, catching Argentin I think through some bonkers descending

So shocked to read in last 24 hours of the death of Richard Moore at the age of 49.

Competed for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games when younger but went on to author some really well-regarded cycling tomes, and what I know him best for, the wonderful Cycling Podcast. He was definitely the mainstay and lynchpin of the show. He had such a warm voice and a friendly at-ease manner, it really was the perfect vehicle for his talents.
The shock is that it was so out of the blue; he seemed fit and well only last week on the show, and regularly spoke about his own bike rides.
Not much released on causes, but apparently he died in his sleep.

So sad, RIP Richard.

Arguably my favourite race of the year tomorrows, Ronde Van Vlaanderen.
Paris @roubaixtuesday is pretty special too, but I’d probably rank this slightly higher. The length, the climbs and the overall profile - plus the cobbles too - make it so so special.
Eurosport tv from 9.30am, and on the app with preview show from 8am I think, finish between 3 & 4pm.
Apparently van Aert out with “flu” but I hope all the other top riders will be there.
