It’s interesting that it’s a young guy that’s made the jump and not an established professional.
Someone replied to me on twitter suggesting that it could be that its a lot more normalised for younger people, and they might have a point tbh

Fair enough, everybody's different, two of my best mates (not a couple) are very openly gay, and don't share your view, doesn't make you or them right or wrong ;)Nah, it has a lot of relevance to many other people. Visibility is important.
The only gay men I saw represented in the world when I was growing up were super camp and effeminate TV entertainers who were treated as a bit of a joke. I concluded that there was nobody in the world like me, that's a very lonely place.
Unfortunately I know people who are going through their whole lives living a lie because of that fear.
There will be kids out there who see this news and it will make a huge difference to them.
ps. I found a lot of people like me.
Would also be good to know if Josh Cavallo or Carl Nassib coming out was important to him.
Those wondering why it's a big deal and saying there's nothing to it just need to have a trawl through the comments on Twitter under the Blackpool FC statement.....
I’d started to think that the first might have been Calvert-Lewin.Good work. Let’s hope it enables others to do the same.
I would like to think you're right but the minority of football fans are real pricks. Any other sport it would not be a problem look at Tom Daley And Gareth ThomasHe is the first in a long time so kudos to him. Hopefully soon, any athlete will be able to be open about their sexuality without any problem at all.
It’s a pretty big deal to the comer outer though. They don’t know if they’ll be accepted by their own family and friends. In the 2020s I don’t see why people need to “come out”. Being gay is as normal as being straight these days. If one of my mates “came out” to me I’d probably say something like “oh right, nice one, see the footy last night?”
Who gives a shit who people are attracted to? It’s nobody’s business but their own.
In most areas of life in this country, it doesn't matter. In the 2020s I don’t see why people need to “come out”. Being gay is as normal as being straight these days. If one of my mates “came out” to me I’d probably say something like “oh right, nice one, see the footy last night?”

There will always be homophobia, just like racism it’s impossible to for it not to exist. Getting more acceptance and a lesser level of abuse has been a huge breakthrough in the past 50/60 years or so.It’s a pretty big deal to the comer outer though. They don’t know if they’ll be accepted by their own family and friends.
