Too many people are obsessed with transfer fees.
In an ideal world, you just buy the players that you want, at whatever price it takes to get them, but like or not (and I don’t) the cost of transfers have to be considered in this FFP era.

When Phillips was originally mentioned on here, it was for a reported £35m release clause. Plenty on here didn’t think he was very good, but could at least see the logic at that price. Seemingly the price has rocketed now we are facing competition from the likes of West Ham and Villa and rather then fans thinking ‘woah, hold a min’ he has all of a sudden become this must-have purchase at any price.

£60m for Kalvin Phillips would be stupid money and I don't really care who wants to get defensive about it. Hopefully it's bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not that arsed because it's not my money but if my missus goes to the shop and buys herself a Cornetto for a tenner I'm still going to be mildly concerned for her mental well-being.

The reason people are "obsessed" with transfer fees is that overspending on 1 player this window DOES, in fact, mean you won't have the money for a different player in a different window - the fees SHOULD matter to you as a fan from a practical point of view.

Why are you talking about FFP ?
Do you honestly believe that the people running our club have no insight to the problems connected to FFP after all thats gone on with our Club.
City will pay what they believe is a fair value and have walked away from many a transfer, when the figures become excessive.
At the end of the day no-one on this forum has any idea about the fees but some are quick to jump on the "twitter bandwagon" and take as face value some of the shit being banded about the fees.

One of the problems with this is the reports from people like Delooney is it’s alway couched as “rumoured to be” , “could reach up to as much as”. No fucking clue what the real numbers are , then people start responding like the figures are facts and not just made up guesses. We KNOW the media always increase the numbers for us. Let’s see what happens first..

English international, leeds cap, apparently a very smart and sensible guy, good image, perfect profile in terms of playstyle, hg, Bielsa taught, a different player to Rodri.

I think he’s worth whatever the club deems ok.

No it doesn't, the limit of what we think he's worth will be set during the scouting meeting. They'll set targets and limits before presenting to the board for funds. They wont go over, just move onto a new target. If we get one for less fine, but they move on if they reach their limit.

If there is any truth to the rumour (Tolmie) that we are all-in for Bellingham next summer then there is absolutely no value in spending significant money on Phillips. What even happens to Phillips if Bellingham rocks up here in 12 months time?

An opinion, sure. But the tone seems quite angry. But it might just be lost in translation. I think our recruitment has been excellent the last few years but people on here seem overly critical.
I disagree. I think our recruitment has been poor as it goes. We didn’t get a centre back the year kompany left and didn’t bring in a forward last year. It was obvious we were balls deep for kane but for whatever reason didn’t work out. We looked very light at times this season.

Last year we bought In Grealish for 100 million which although he has done ok and I quite like him I think 100 million was too much and there were alternatives that were a lot cheaper.

Year before was Torres/Ake and Dias. I would only count Dias as being a success. Torres showed glimpses of what he could do but left a year later.

Ake at 50 million is again too much for essentially a fourth choice centre back. He’s done better this season but I wouldn’t put him down as a success after two full seasons.

Admittedly Haaland and Alvarez look to be a top piece of business this year but the last few have been very underwhelming when you consider we have lost sane/kompany/Fernandinho and augero.

Do you seriously believe that our Club are incompetent when it comes to transfers and the fees and what they will have left over in a "pot".
It doesn`t concern me one iota and I`ll leave that to the people who run our wonderful successful club.Perhaps you cant get your around the fact that we will make money from outgoing transfers and the possible amount of £175M from our winnings from PL and TV, plus sponsorship.
You worry too much.

Nothing. Jude isn't a 6 or DM. He'll prob slot into LCM over Gundo leaving. (and maybe Silva next year)

1. Bellingham isn’t a specialist DM.
2. Bellingham will obviously replace Gundogan.

This is a circular argument.

The club ABSOLUTELY is capable of being extremely incompetent when it comes to transfers - Ahsan said it perfectly last summer when he felt the club was "unserious" in the Kane deal.

100m for grealish is still an extremely bizarre price as of now and it's still up to him to change that.

The club is not beyond making bizarre transfer decisions even if the people managing it are competent.
