Not what I recall. Many were saying he simply wasn’t good enough and we needed a more mobile DM.
70% though ?
I’d say maybe 33.3%, the other two 33.3%s were a mix between him just being off the pace that game (because he still had many good games in that period) and people saying he just needs time.
The remaining fraction were just people calling him Rhodri still.

The moment the agreed fee was realised I received a text off my brother in law who supports the dark side.

He said, getting Phillips for £42m is an absolute bargain. I have to agree.

Plenty of idiotic posters on here, he was excellent under Bielsa who pep admires as a coach.

I believe we have done a shrewd bit of business here, replace the departing legend in Ferna and also added to the HG quota with sterling potentially going.

I was meh.. but when it comes to midfielders I trust Pep unconditionally and if he wants him, it will work well for us. Then on seeing the fee it’s a no brainier. I honestly thought he would cost £20/30 mil more. Absolute bargain in this day and age.

I wasn't keen on him coming to the club ,but got to say having 2nd thoughts now .
Think he could be similar to Nigel de Jong & the price is a good deal for us .

Yeah, at that sort of money it's a steal. Add in the fact he's English, knows the league, knows the area, and thrived under a coach who Pep admires and was influenced by I think he'll do great. In a world cup year as well, I think for those of us who support England it is a good sign too.

As with any signing, up to the lad to shut the doubters up.

If you want to see a guy who will do the unbelievable with passes and his all round ball play then you be disappointed. Kalvin Phillips will clean the midfield and will connect defence to attack with minimum fuss and under pep will become even better and as for the price well it’s an absolute bargain .
The modern day Gaz Baz.

Wasn’t he brought up my his mam and nanna.
Dad in prison, next to lufc training ground, violent robbery, brought up by mum and his beloved gran (rip) with v little money, nice , humble lad who was great with fans hence no chance of going to scum . Based here it will be weird, great to see him in a City shirt , good solid signing .

I just hope he's better than his namesake Buster.....

Decent business will add steel when facing spurs dippers with their pace on the counter. Very likeable character and will only improve under pep.

Regarding the fee, maybe we came in with the offer before last season ended, it was rumoured he had a £25M relegation clause, they valued him at £60M + so we shook in the fourties’ very similar to the Nathan Ake deal, people thought we overpaid because they went down

I doubt he's come to play second fiddle..excited to see the new level he will reach..

While it would take an incredible sudden development of further ability......Stranger things have happened.

We have identified a specific player to do a job,and i think he will do it very well.

Look at how many games Ferna played last season. I’ll trust the club but I’ve been saying for a while I can’t see where he’ll fit in.Very slow and ponderous. Reminds me of Barry and De Jong and we’ve evolved a lot since those 2 left. The bits I’ve seen of Lavia suggests he could fill in for Rodri against lesser teams at home. It’s this crazy home grown rule again forcing prices up.
Nothing to do with the home grown rule, we bought Phillips because Pep wants Phillips. Simple as that.
