I literally can’t think of any decent left backs outside of England that would be up for grabs this summer. And if there is any I’ve definitely not watched them enough to say if they’re better than Cucurella, as another poster mentioned if this isn’t on then hopefully we find a Ruben

To be quite honest about it, if he's as good as they say and he looks, then he's probably worth the £50 million and then a bit. When I look at what we've been prepared to pay for most of our defenders, it looks reasonable to me.
Jack'll come good, and I've defended him this past season, but frankly we paid way over the odds for him.
Cucurella's on a contract with a long way to go on it, and their club can hold him to it. I'll be disappointed if we don't get him. Not heartbroken, of course. City will move on. So will Brighton.

I agree. Looks good to me. Unfortunately every time we have been linked with a full back who looks decent going forward and defensively and with a bit of pace, the ghost of Laurent Charvet keeps appearing in my head. Alongside Michael Frontzeck. :-)

Brighton didn't sign Cucurella from Barcelona either.

What lesson is this, bend over backwards to a moron like Levy? We still won the league and have better replacement 12 months later. We won’t be held to ransom. We will just
move on to next alternative. If Kane does not sign new contract Levy will have lost £140 million when he leaves on a free.

When I said learned our lesson I meant quickly move on to another target rather than wait hoping/assuming the selling club will eventually lower their asking price.

Obviously we are very happy how it worked out (as will levy tbf) but the fact we attempted to sign ronaldo towards the end of the window last season suggests to me it wasn’t handled as well as it could have been.

If anyone actually watched any Brighton matches this year it would be quite easy to understand if they are convinced. He was unbelievably good.
