It really is just the hard-right of the party that is propping him up and control of the 1922 Committee is imperative for both sides. Don't wish to be vulgar, but the brain pool from which to draw a Cabinet is evaporating, so the quality of Government will only get even worse. Imagine that!

JRM tonight being disgraceful in his defence of Johnson - minor indiscretion - can't remember everything - even harking back to Palmerston ( likes to keep it contemporary does Jakey ) and as news comes in of a number of junior ministers quitting he just laughs it off and says Johnson can plough on
