Nathan Ake

Ake is a personable guy looks like pleasant to be around, but maybe his biggest problem is his biggest asset, he's just too nice.

Keep him or let him go I am easy either way.
I mean if we get Cucurella his playtime could reduce even further. I can't recall him starting many games at CB, he started a few at left back. I get he's a good person to have around the dressing room but not much point keeping him if we can improve or upgrade, I hardly think he pushed Laporte off his spot once. Still a decent defender but £50m + for our 4th choice is crazy I'd take that any day.

Sometimes I just don't get the love in on here. He was average as a centre half, poor as a left back, relegated with Bournemouth and we overpaid for him.

If someone is willing to pay us a tidy sum, I'd snap their hands off.

Another of those players I'm not bothered if they move on.

All a game of opinions but there are only about 11 of the squad I'd be gutted to lose. Ake isn't one of them.

It is just the CB position is the grey area for me where Ake is a very useful player to have in the squad however we have players who can cover in an emergency (although for not longer periods)

Shame he’s leaving. He never let us down and had probably improved under Pep. Chelsea have made an excellent signing.

Assuming he's gone I'd rather we went for a right footed CB. Preferably someone to come in similar circumstances to Demichelis.

A veteran defender would be ideal but who is available with the required quality? Mee fits one requirement but does fail on the second bit. Pique in one way would be great but with his red connections and his current salary; and who would not be willing to drop his wages for us would make this off limits.

Before selling Ake we should sign a replacement.
If we can't find a suitable replacement, we should not sell him.

I suspect the club will be on top of that.

Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.....Do some of you still think we are being run by clowns?

A little more credit is required from certain quarters.

Saying it again, no top CB will join to be 4th choice. And for those who say, players prefer to learn by joining training sessions of Pep, no that doesn't work.
Players prefer to play. So a top CB won't join. People are throwing names of some expensive players who will be starters elsewhere. And if someone does agree to join and then becomes a starter, we risk sending 200k earning CB to bench which again won't make sense

"Chelsea have made an excellent signing."

I beg to differ, the drop off from Rudiger to Ake is a huge, whatever you think of Rudiger, he was a hell of a defender.

Ake has to be replaced, other wise you are going into a season with one Centre back that doesn’t have injury issues. Stones and Laporte both have injury issues throughout a season. Plus the World Cup etc. you would then be relying on either Laporte or Stones being able to go a full season without an injury
Absolutely right,

Can only think they must have offered ~£50m.

Nice guy, he did well when called upon.

We can get a decent backup centre back for less than that and put the rest towards a winger.
Westham's Diop is a decent CB, valued at 20m. Wouldn't be too bad as a back up although I am not very sure if he's passing range is good enough but in terms of defending, he is at Ake level if not slightly better.

Cannot understand why we are weakening our defence by selling ake . Last season we only just got over the line because of injuries to our defence and by selling ake it does weaken that area .

Would like to have kept him but an international player should never be happy to just be a bit part player & just sit back & pick up his wages.
Good luck to him if he goes, too good to be a 4th choice CB
