It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

They need to give Palmer much more game time this year, the guy is 20 he isn't a kid anymore in football terms. Foden for example played 50 games in the season he was 20. If they got another attacker in he would be lucky to make 15 appearance with Alvarez coming in aswel, it just isnt enough.
I played him last night at Stockport 5 a side lol. Hes pretty good.... Although I hope he won't be playing it much during the season.

Wonder why he didn’t get hardly any game time last season?
People are wanting another player in because Sterling is leaving. He needs to trust in Palmer this season, not go buy someone else. Yes, he was injured you can kid yourself to think he would of played more than 8-10 games more if he wasnt. Looking at the amount of mins Jesus, Sterling, Grealish and Mahrez shared. I think he would of been lucky to even get 8-10 more games.

He would of been involved in 30+ games if fit! He was out most of the season so your original post saying he should played more was a bit disingenuous..

We will see he hasnt yet no, I just dont see a need to bring another player in.
Do you think some of these kids who we have just been sold for good prices could of filled the gaps this season, if they were trusted or given a chance or were we right to sell them?

Why would that not make sense?
We’re either choosing not to spend more than we earn or we cant. If it is choice then hopefully that is because future targets are being lined up for next summer rather than not seeing value.

No one wants a return to sinclair rodwell days of buying because we think we have to but equally id expect them to have genuine high quality targets to persue at every window. However this window feels like a 1 in 1 out policy from an already thin starting position.

I think the only one I have a ? over was maybe Bazuna if he was willing to be 2nd choice, but he is a brillant price for what he has achieved so far in his career. Non of the others looked ready for City so the club did brillant in the market with them.

I think Palmer is at an age where he needs to be playing regular, lets say he played the 30 games last year like the above comment says. That would of been great, even if I am supicious about if he really would have. I just think if you add an extra attacker with Haaland and Alvarez would he crack on? Obviously we dont know until were in the season, we will have to wait and see i personally dont see a need for another attacker.

I get that. I just didn't get why it would make no sense to make or want to make a net profit.

So all we got to do is play walker on the wing?? I will give u 2 prime example of rapid forwards who are shit because all they have is pace and no skill or composure. ASM at Newcastle and traore the wolves winger.
I said speed is massively important, not the be all and end all..

For sure try to sell for as much as you can. God knows how pissed this forum is on txiki selling low. But all that does is mean you can spend even more (if you want to). You can pretty much run at an outflow of 50-75 per year and be sustainable but currently we arent trying to do that this summer

Pep doesn't just give youth players chances unless he thinks they're 100% ready....and he has a point as we compete every game, in every cup, so we can't afford to carry players

The fact that Palmer, Delap and McAtee haven't been sold show to me that they have a part to play

Think you are looking at 18 year olds like Edozie, Lavia and Gyabi getting sold, the reality is 18 year olds aren't really going to be at the level of a first team player

There is no point keeping hold of Edozie in case we need to him to play as a sub for 5 minutes in the singular game where all of Grealish, foden, Mahrez, alvarez, Bernardo etc weren't available

Given we've pretty much got buy-back clauses for all of them mean we can always bring them back if they reach the level of our first team

I think we’ve got too a point with some of these young players where they need to be give a proper chance in the first team squad. We can’t keep buying ready made replacements.

Palmer in particular would benefit massively from not having a new player blocking his path

And despite not being ideal we still carried on winning, it's almost as if the club actually know what they're doing.

Ake was bought because it was thought at the time that Laporte was going, Ake could also play at left back when needed as we still don't have a specialised left back.

I still can't see how it's "obvious" that we want two players per position although you rather shot yourself in the foot by stating "with the exception of centre mid". Is it two players per position or not?
I'm going to agree with both of you...we are plenty good enough as is AND we are 4 deep at centre mid...KDB, Bernardo, Gundo and...McAtee...I 've already stated that I believe we could easily defeat at least 60% of the teams in the Prem with McAtee in the lineup...

Bayern after Matthijs de Ligt and fee quoted is 51m yep if we went for him he be one our first choice players but for that fee of Ake goes it’s an opportunity we shouldn’t miss out on!
Where did you get 51m from? Juve already turned down 80m from Bayern...

I wouldn't be surprised if Delap is moved on with haaland & Alvarez on the books .
I hope Mcatee is given a chance though & not played on the wings like some suggest ?
This lad is going to be a top talent in a midfield slot if he continues to learn ,listen ,graft & not get side tracked with tempting off the field distractions .

Sell Ake and replace him with De Ligt at the same price. Haha!

I'm sure Chelsea will have gone after De Ligt before Ake, though, and there'll be a reason for them not pursuing. I read Bayern were after him when he went to Juventus and regrets it?

Something about that Ajax crop of moving to a club and regretting their choice (De Jong/De Ligt)...

Phil has been in the first team for around 4/5 years and still hasn’t played in midfield consistently so I don’t McAtee will play there any time soon
