I think it’s pretty timely Bloom coming out with this comment now, shortly after them turning down a bid.

Brighton still haven’t sold their season ticket allocation (which are now on open sale), so they can’t be seen to be selling off their best players, especially given that Bissouma was sold way below market value, and so far they have only brought in a couple of kids.
Spot on! They've probably also asked City to give them some more time to spend their Cucurella cash to settle the fans in time for them to accept Citys offer eventually.

You see this one happening, Matty?

Didn't one of our ITKs (Matty? Sorry if it was someone else) say we'd made a £ + player bid for Cucurella and it had been rejected? If so, either our ITK isn't so ITK or Bloom is lying. Would love some clarification.

Both could be true. Putting aside whether the ITK is or isnt itk, I would go ahead and guess that Bloom is not being honest. It is common. It is not his job to tell the truth,,it is his job to handle the club business including player transfers.

It’s just interpretation nobody is lying in the true sense of the word. Informal and formal bids…all part of the process.

Thats not correct, Bloom will sale if the price is right. BHAFC fans understand that.. its up to you to nake Bloom the offer hecant turn down. Oh and yes Bloom is willing to let players rot in the reserves, he done it with Dale Stephens and Dunk.

With all due respect, Dale Stephens and Lewis Dunk aren't particularly players with the ability and calibre of Cucurella.

Your business model is great - it brings in promising players who *may* have had their sights set on playing higher in the league but guarantees them playing time as well as the opportunity to not stand in their way should a 'better' move present itself down the line. No doubt Cucurella will see playing for us as a move that will further his career (again, with all due respect) and will be a bit pissed off if Bloom prices him out of it.

The whole carry on that Bloom is a king in the market is a bit much IMO. Transfers, in their reality, are simple - the selling club sets a fee and the buying club meets it in some way or another or realises that they're taking the piss and negotiate down. Fine. But the fee that's set by the selling club isn't purely based on how much of a tough negotiator the guy in charge of the club is, it's purely relative to the context.

The context here being that we don't speak to a club unless we have the go-ahead from the player which in-turn guarantees that Cucurella's head has been turned already. Bloom will know that and won't want an unhappy player in the squad and also, again, won't want his business model of bringing in promising players to be disrupted. Essentially, an offer he 'can't turn down' doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be a mega £50m+ bid but one that's relative to the situation.

I think we'll pay through the nose for him because we need a left back and he obviously has the right playing style (Barca academy and grown under Potter) for us and Brighton deserve a higher fee for 'taking a risk' on him but I can't see it being a stupid amount.

thats how city have worked for years though isnt it? They get to the point where its all agreed by having a chat and then bid so the optics are its come from nowhere but the reality is its been ongoing for weeks etc?
Philips said the same in his interview. He said he'd heard rumours of City interest, but 3 months ago he received a message from Txiki asking to speak.

They had a conversation, terms were agreed & negotiations were completed with Leeds. Txiki wouldn't have messaged Philips for a chat unless an agreement was already in place with Leeds allowing us to speak to the player.

Well I fuckin hope not. :-|

I fucking love the fact that Brighton fans are conducting Brightons transfer negotiations in a City forum. Maybe they should stick to doing what they do best, booing an over achieving team and manager. Funny though, I’ve got no inclination to go into a small Brighton forum and conduct transfer negotiations, or indeed go in there full stop.
Maybe a hunded booed, corporate lot i think, not reprrsentitive of our fan base. I think those that did boo was more out of frustrstion than anything, all over Leeds but missed chances. No reason to boo though. Im just enjoying the football we play at the moment, and the fact that bigger clubs want to buy players from us. Hopefully signs of za well run club. Onwards and upwards and hopefully an even higher finish than last season. Its seems a long time ago travelling to Gillingham for a hpme game in the lower leagues to now. The bubble will burst i suspect but please not yet.

I understand what you put, he would be mad, its just with Bloom u never know. He alzo done back in January with Bissouma, That cost him nearly £20m.

Yeah the Bissouma one is one that makes me a little more confident than I was because of how much he lost. Would he want do to it again? Not sure personally.

If he does, I wish I'm ever in the position that £20m is a drop in the ocean!! Haha

Good post but I don’t think I’d be going into your forum to conduct transfer negotiations. On the matter of the Leeds game it deffo sounded like a lot more than 100, but I appreciate you weren’t one of them x

What would you say his two strongest assets are ? And what would he need to improve ?

Ah the old 'rot in reserves'.

£40m max...if it`s not good enough we should move on...cancelo/zinny & walker/kabore are good options...if we reject a £17m bid for Kabore than he should be good enough to be the understudy to Walker

If you mean how as a club our biggest asset is Potter, none of our players would walk into any top half side, only a few would walk into bottom half sides, but he hzs somehow got us playing good football and over achieving with the players we have. When he first came and said what he wznts to do, i thought yes it will take s few seasons but it hasnt.

Cucu wise i think his game is complete by our standards. Hes better going forward but also good at defending. He had some real speed

Im not conducting transfew negotiations just giving my view on it. Both clubs seem to do the dealings in a correct way, so we will never know the full figures its all speculation. We all value our own players high, but when we are after players it to high.

I know where we stand in the chain, its a compliment that a club like City is intrested in our player. Long gone are the days we buy a player for the price of a teams tracksuit (Gary Hart) or looking for loans.

I though he was a brilliant negotiator and a professional poker player and we'd have to bow to his demands?
He is but is willing to do what is best for the club. We dont need to sale so if Bloom thinks ur bid is not enough then he will say no. This is what he done with Villa.

The days of the manager or owner having a say if the player stays or goes are long gone ,he just downs tools and they won't be prepared to loose £45m .
