It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Well - yes, of course he is.

He’s naturally a midfielder, so you’d expect him to be.

Problem is he’s not all that great at defending. He’s ok - but not good enough for a team of our aspirations.

I suspect we’re looking for a player with better balance - someone who’s very good at both - and we’re willing to sacrifice a bit of the attacking threat we get with Zin for a much more solid defender.
Which is also why I think we would buy him. To have a better defensive left back. There aren’t many better going forward than Cancelo and Zinchenko.

Someone stated he was far better offensively, which is what I was questioning.

I’m not against signing Cucurella at all.

this line of argument actually goes against what you are saying. if Steffen had conceded fewer goals per 90 than ederson would that make him a better GK than ederson?
That was my question to him. I don’t think that at all, but you could create stats to portray that, should you so wish.

Yes, at the very least can people stop being stupid when comparing players?

Stop using total minutes when one player played 3x the league minutes, do people not realize how misleading this is?

I've already mentioned this in the Zinchenko performance thread, he is an ABSOLUTE JUGGERNAUT in our attack as a leftback. Basically Trent level, but where Trent is more direct and it's translates directly into assists, Zinchenko plays left back as if he's David Silva and is very influential in the pre assist.

Everyone should go to fbref and look at GCA/90 for our club (I posted this in zinny thread) and you'll have way more appreciation and realization for what he does hopefully.

I still want Cucurella as he will play left back in a slightly more defensive manner and is slightly quicker, but he is a worse passer and less intelligent on the ball than Zinchenko (only because Zinny iq on the ball is super high)

All nice points and numbers, buy ultimately you just have to watch him in our team to see all this. He is so integral to the way we move forward and the ball around the pitch. He is like a robot that does exactly what pep wants almost o autopilot. The constantnt touch turn pass has become instinctive and creates space to move and stretch. And that's before he actually picks out a meaningful pass through or over to a player or into an area that creates an assist.

Genuinely don't know enough about Cucurella to even attempt to argue he is better or worse, many here rate him so highly I am happy to just take that on board. It is clear the club want him and hope we get him. Doesn't change the fact Zinch is a great player to have, and at a time when so many new players will be bedding in, including Cucurella, he would be a safe bet. Also allowing Cancelo more cover at RB. To argue Cucurella coming means there is no place for Zinchenko just doesn't wash for me, better player or not.

Only for last season, he usually puts up 0.24 GCA per 90 on average at City.

Last seasons 0.84 is an anomaly for now. Remains to be seen if he keeps this up.

my only hope is that we get 2 fullbacks if we do sell zinny. the very clear problem at the end of this season was the lack of available fullbacks.

Really hope it doesn't happen. Guys like Zinchenko are invaluable.

Agreed, but he will do what is right for him and his young family.

Arsenal would be a great option for him and he can have Gabby for company.

He will get games here but maybe that's not enough.

Zin should be in the £40m class, based on his winning pedigree and relatively low wages.

I had hope not, given you had posted pep trusted him to play anywhere on the left side :(

Pep has told him he will get games down the left in a bid to persuade him, but only Zin can decide.

I'd love him to stay, but same with Gabby and Sterling, perhaps they just want to be playing every week now they have owned the Premier League.

It certainly won't be for playing Champions League football at Arsenal!

I get that getting decent money for players who want to move on.

But essentially strengthening Arsenal and Chelsea with quality (even if they always start for us) is a bit strange.

Giving them 2 each potentially
