Owning a nice watch

i cant afford a "nice watch" wouldnt get alot of use out of it anyway, couldn't wear it for work(airport worker) or hobbying(fishing) .

i've got a G-shock, looks ok tells the time , is as tough as fuck and water proof, don't get me wrong i would love a top watch but sadly cant afford one,

if anyone who has a couple of splendid watches would like to donate one i swear i would cherish it :)

Same as you , I have a G-shock for work tough as old boots ! So i upgrade to ( for me ! ) a 300 quid stainless steel G-shock for sunday best lol

Thought about it long n hard but in the end i cant justify. Cant wear one to work as im manual, decided to get a nice £500er instead and i get plenty of comments of it being nice

im not sure if a rolex etc is just for show, in which case ill go cheetham hill and get a shiteling for £150.

for my treats i buy gold coins. Increase in value im hoping

The Urban Gentry is a good YouTube channel for advice on quality watches at various price points
Good shout for TGV. I'll add- just one more watch and the casual watch reviews. Both review the low to mid price watches, microbrands, etc.
Also the nekkid watchmaker if anyone wants to learn what makes em tick

As an addition to your portfolio with the aim to attract a profit, I believe watches can be very attractive to collectors.

As a piece of engineering to tell the time, nice watches are somewhere well below chocolate fireguards

Anyone know of any reputable dealers they would recommend? I've been looking at the new Speedy moonwatch pro crystal but the usual suspects all have it priced at exactly the same figure.

Is that serious ^...most 50, 40,30,20,10,5 yr old chronometers are still within 5 seconds a day, if maintained well.if they were cars theyd be f1

If youre thinking lads oversize watches that get smashed about everytime they sit at a table and have their balance and overcoil twatted are chocalate, theyre not, making a slim bullet proof wristwatch is a proper lot...watchmakers wont do that when youll buy fat lots to smash about.

Anyone seen any of those Code 41 watches that seem to have emerged fairly recently? The "Anomaly" is a nice looking watch, but above my paygrade, unfortunately.

Nearly $1400.

Lost my brother last month as I'm sure I've said on here... He left me a gift from his death in service policy and I have no immediate plans to spend the money but it would cover the retail price on a Rolex Daytona... I put my name down for one about a year ago but don't hold out much hope of getting the call as i've got zero history with the dealer.

I've thought about the Omega Moon Watch but haven't looked at one yet

A friend of mine works for P&O and with her staff discount I can get a Tag Monaco for around half the retail price (around £2,800 with the saving) when she's next on board next month but I'm not sure that A. it's actually an investment and B. whether I'd always consider it as a substitute

There's no rush to invest in anything but I do want to put it to good use

Off topic but I did swap his season card over to my lads name as we sat together at the Etihad but sadly I had zero joy trying to keep the points he'd amassed even though it was staying in the family.. Rules are rules I guess

Tags are nice watches. However, they don't have the name of a Rolex, Omega, Breitling etc, so I'm not sure if they're a good investment if you're looking to make a few bob.

You'd have to wait a long time to see any kind of return on a tag, even the automatic ones.
You're right, they are nice, but overpriced to start with.
Rolex aside, if I was looking for an investment piece, I'd be buying the earliest omega speedmaster I could get my hands on, with provinence. Or an early seamaster chronograph, or breitling wise, a nice navitimer, or first edition aerospace.
I wouldn't bother with anything new, unless a few nos skx's came along.

Speedmaster with a column wheel mvmnt ( calibre 321) or that calibre in a seamaster chrono should 42mm be too big...the seamaster deville from the mid 60's is a darling, expect Daytona competition for clean examples.

For me the speedmaster is the perfect balance between quality and usebility. Rarely take mine off, unlike its predecessor (Rolex explorer) which I hardly wore.

Good luck with your search.

Maybe it's just me, but that's a lot of money to shell out on a, well, ugly watch
