Owning a nice watch

At a £1000 starting price...

There is always something more to point like this.

No resale though

Disagree.

A cheapo, say £250 to £500, can pay its way by making the owner feeling less pressured to update their car. The savings are potentially (and typically) a shed load more than the appreciation on a similarly priced Omega.

Meanwhile, an expensive, sought-after plate could yield the sort of dividends to make watch wearers’ eyes water.

Show off what? No **** needs to ask the time anymore as we all own phones.

And the places where people don't I doubt you would flash a 1K watch.

Just get a knock off rolex off harpuhey market for a tenner no one will notice

Thing about fakes is those that know how much your Rolex is worth know it’s fake and those that don’t know don’t. So no point buying fake.

I don’t own a particularly expensive watch but had it years now. If I had a son I’d splash out on something special - I sort of think that handing down a nice watch to your kid that you’ve used is better than a few grand in cash.

I have daughters so Mrs MB has a few handbags and the such that they’ll inherit, hopefully they’ll be reminded of her in years to come when we’re both dust and they are using them.

Buy a vintage mechanical watch, there are a available in many styles. They are distinctive and not very common and will give you your own sense of identity. Plus if/when you have children/grandkids they will get to inherit an antique that they can pass on to the next generation
I bought couple of 60s and 70s watches about 18 months ago as I wanted something a bit different . never been big into watches but like some of the funky designs including some 70s jump hour watches . become an addiction got about 15 now. nothing that's worth any money . put new straps on some .couple of non runners I fancied having a tinker with ( no idea what I am doing though) . Think the most paid for one was £50 and that came with 3 other non runners.

Watches are for wearing, be it a 10 quid casio or a 250k patek.
I was trying to justify the outlay, as others had said they are a waste of money.

I have a Omega planet ocean titanium chrono and I just make sure it’s insured and wear it everyday
Some people may say it’s a waste on money but I get pleasure from it
If you buy a limited edition model there is money to be made
I have had a Tag Heuer previously wore it for 10 years and sold it for more than I paid for it
I guess it’s called choice and opinions
If you can afford it get an automatic watch
Bargain hard as well I bought my girlfriend a Brietling from a jewellers and got about 35 percent off
Covid may work in your favour
