I have a feeling he’s either going to join, or he isn’t.
I also think we are gonna make one more push, pep wants him badly and everyone can see this.
Hopefully he doesn’t choose Chelsea he wants pep he says his dream is to play for pep and I believe there are more minutes here than there is at Chelsea.
We offer a better project than Chelsea by a mile they aren’t gonna challenge for either league or CL and I know they beat us to it but I just don’t think they have that fear factor they had back then.

The transfer window is still open.

If and when they get injured we will more than likely have perfectly good backups.

Agreed, I would like Kabore to be given some game time, Grimaldo wants out and Sosa can also play CH. Kabore will become a great full back, I hope with us. Like Haarland, I'm happy to get a decent stop gap, with a view to going either AD, or TH in the next two seasons.

You have to back the hierarchy’s decisions, their record 99% of the time demands that. But on those rare occasions when they do seemingly fuck up and make a dog’s dinner of something, then they really do seem to go big
If we end up in September still scratching around for alternatives in a known problem position, after wasting the second close season in a row haggling with someone who won’t haggle, then it has to be admitted that is a blunder.
We could even have kept Zinchenko for another year given the likelihood of this exact scenario. He only wanted to go because we were planning a new LB.
Selling him without a replacement in the bag, and then being left with neither, is a strategic error, no matter what anyone says.

Not the impression I get. Regular starter at Brighton or second choice behind Cancelo at City only in the frame. Cucu does not come to salience in left backs but the alternatives are awful. I expect he will turn all other English suitors down, if he hasn't already.
You really think he would turn Chelsea down if they agree a fee with Brighton?

Been reported that Cucurella will accept the Chelsea move.
cause he will, when City were interested he wanted to move to City, now another club is interested and Brighton won't take our offer he wants to go to Chelsea, basically anything top 7 is an upgrade to Brighton

I mean, if Chelsea offering a silly amount of money for him and raising his wage among Chelsea top earner his head can be turned.

I will not blaming him if he go to Chelsea instead because he have no other choice left already burning his bridge with his club and it's fans by handing his transfer request.

If zinchenko didn't ask to move and they sold zinchenko and didn't get a LB, this is just plain stupid imo. Something else must be at play. Ffp?

yep, we shit the bed in the FA Cup and CL due to a defensive crisis. We were 20 mins away from fucking the league as well.

And we’ve decided to make that overstretched defence smaller and weaker.
I think we need a backup at left back (unless they really expect Josh WE to play a lot), but we can't base our strategy on the defensive crisis we had last season.

Towards the end of the season all four centre backs were injured, along with Walker. Our only other senior cover at CB was Fernandinho, and he was too slow now to play there. Cancelo was also suspended for the Real Madrid match, which led to Stones being risked and going off injured.

That's a once in a decade (or more) crisis.

Who have we not had a back up for?

We wanted Van Dijk, got Laporte.

Wanted Sanchez, got Mahrez.

Wanted Jorginho, got Rodri.

Wanted Koulibaly, got Dias.

Wanted Kane, got Haaland.

What does “wasting months” even mean? It’s another one of these phrases that comes from this childish attitude that all their efforts are focused on 1 transfer.
Totally agree with that, the only issue is we have let our back up LB leave, probably because he was told he would not be getting much game time with a new LB coming in, IF we fail to do that, it's far from ideal.

Is this a creative writing course?

Bar Van Dijk which wasn’t a protracted pursuit, we “got” all of those 12 months after the move we wanted failed. There was no back up in those windows when the move failed.

I’ve no doubt we could wait 12 months and get a another left back for 40-50m but the season starts Friday and we don’t have a natural LB in the squad.

“Wasted months” means we’ve been chasing a player all summer who we were never going to pay the required fee for, and now have 1 month to try and find someone in budget, it’s not a difficult concept.

Edit: they moved quickly from Koulibaly to Dias, but it was still a whole year after Kompany left so point still stands

Silly money aka what we paid for each of Mendy, Walker, and Cancelo.

yep, so we rushed our CB back to cover right back because we are light at full back.

Now we are another player down so it’s going to mean Ake and Stones playing at fullback again.

6 first team defenders is complete mismanagement. 7 is still a big risk imo. We started last season with 8.
