How football works......
Brighton value Cucurella at £50M.
We don't think he is worth £50M and will not pay it.
Another team thinks he is worth £50M and are willing to pay it.
Therefore, Brighton are right. Cucurella's value is £50M!
It's not rocket science. It's a market - demand/supply/price

Taking some moral high ground doesn't gain us anything - doesn't get us the target player that Pep wants.
After letting Sterling go to Chelsea, this feels like gifting them another top class player.
Our club is trying to raise its profile positively on the world stage. This sort of approach, like last summer with Kane, risks making us look like amateurs.
Not at all, paying above your valuation makes you look like amateurs. Did we look like amateurs when the rags bought Sanchez, Maguire?

Edit: the only thing I would say is if we believe he really is the one and no one else compares, then maybe we’ve got our valuation wrong, but I’ll leave that to the experts.

It’ll be interesting to see if we use Chelsea getting close on a fee to our advantage in knowing we can get it matched and do the deal quickly, IF we do choose. Only other day we were saying no one knew what fee Bloom wanted, however if suddenly we get to hear maybe via Cucu’s agent what the agreed fee is then we know what has to be done if we want to swoop in.

Not by any means convinced we will but there’s always the possibility.
The way Bloom works not so sure he would sell Cucurella to City even if we offered £50m.

Buy the player. It’s been reported for months that Cucurella is City and Pep’s priority leftback target. Not coughing up the money needed when we’ve sold so many players with big profits this summer is completely beyond me. There aren’t many good options on the market. We’re likely looking at another Angelino situation. Instead of buying the top target, we settle on somebody less skillful, and because of what, pride? Because we got the money. This is on Txiki.
Is it on Txiki, I'm sure Txiki could have done the deal weeks ago if he was told he had £50 Mill to spend on him , he obviously was told he didn't have £50 mill for him. For whatever, probably very good reasn.

Is there anyone here thinking we cound still get Cucurella? It’s reported that he and Chelsea have agreed on personal terms so I guess the deal is gone. Still can’t believe we’re missing out on him. WTF seriously. Can’t the board see his brilliance on his left flank? He can defend, attack and everything in between. Never thought City would be this stupid.

Too much of an egoboost for Txiki to get a deal for Haaland, now he thinks everyone will jump at his command… Sigh.

Not signing Kane didn’t make us look like amateurs.

We saved £150m, won the title and signed Haaland for a third of the fee.

Dry your flaps.

That really isn't how it works at all....

Maybe the asking price was £60m and all this time haggling walking away unsettling player transfer request bringing in chelsea has already now reduced it to £50m.
Maybe we can then agree at £45-50m being the players desired club having initially been quoted £10-15m more. In which case that would be good business.

All the stories from brighton end are “ben white is yardstick and we think cucurella is better and would take a ridiculous offer etc etc” so Im sure they were asking well over £50m originally.

I’ll keep blind faith we’re still in this and will get our player but hope is dwindling.

Of course if its always been £50m and we’re not doing it for the sake of £10m I’d be pissed

If Ben White is the yardstick maybe we are best off finding an alternative. White is garbage.

At the time we looked smalltime for not having the ambition and bollocks to pay big money. But only until both of those goons started to actually try and play football in that hideous rag shirt. Then we looked like geniuses for knowing they were actually shit and best avoided.

Hopefully it’ll be the same with Cucurella if he doesn’t come here.

It’s was 50m+ when mentioning the fee to city now it’s 50m is fine to Chelsea seems some owners are bitter yank lovers

It’s wasn’t 50m it was always 50m+

As we seem to have both made our positions clear, if media reports are true, then it's going to take a lot of fudging and double speak to get an agreement without a big climb down by someone.I doubt it will be us ,as I think we have been determined not to be seen as the cash cow with all the unwelcome attention that brings.
Now I've said that, we will get him in the next 24hours for sure.

Won the title by one point and nearly buggered it up with 20 mins to go, partly because we couldn't put the ball in the net.

Having a small squad cost us in the FA cup too, when our players were out on their feet.

Not amateurs but the club likes to take too many risks for my liking.

Going into the season with no recognised left back and only two fullbacks is another one.

There have been plenty of posts quoting sources where they were asking for in excess of £50m, so you may not be far away from the truth.

Might have looked small time to some but you should never pay a penny more than you think something’s worth. If you keep doing that, soon you’re Barcelona. No need for us to gamble from a position of strength.
