How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

I'm not defending Brexit by any means, but this all seems a bit trivial.

I don't think Brexit has hugely impacted travel for the average Brit (it certainly hasn't for me). I'm sure there are other benefits we've lost though - the fact that I'm not aware of them speaks volumes.

For me personally, since Brexit, I've been abroad maybe 7 or 8 times and in every case, it's seemed pretty much exactly the same as going abroad before Brexit.
Not for the average Brit - but if you want to study or work abroad, it’s a whole lot harder.

We spent £800 last year on visa/medical/Hague Apostille documentation just so my daughter could study for 9 months in Madrid.

In the end, she didn’t get to go because despite us following the Spanish consulate instructions to the letter, they rejected one of our documents. At this point we contacted her uni and they agreed she could proceed to final final year.

The wait times for appointments at Embassies and Consulates were months. Young people have been sold down the river by Brexit.

I found the passport checks at Portsmouth and Saint Malo took far longer than previously this year.
Getting back in was a nightmare. It was 5 to 10 minutes per vehicle at Portsmouth.
At least I’ll be exempt from ETIAS being over 70.
I'm not sure you'll be exempt because it reads every passport holder, but as things stand at the moment, you'll still have to get out of your vehicle to have your biometric passport scanned, which will start at the same time.

It won’t cost me anything though

Fraud: a person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities.
Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

The main architects of Brexit should be charged as fraudsters. A concerted fraud against the UK populace. Too few saw through what was a massive scam from first to last.

When did Hague become an Apostle? Thought Matthias replaced Judas.

It seems to be a "money-for-old-rope" system where they stamp a document to make it official.
Any fool can see what the document says and what it means, but apparently it's not official without this bunch of clowns stamping it.

Just one of the joys of Brexit - I'll bet there are import/export businesses up and down the country who are having to go through this **** on a daily basis.

As somebody on these forums said a few months ago - collectively, we are the only country in history to vote trade restrictions on ourselves. Not me, obviously, I didn't vote for this nonsense.

Interesting article .........

The one fault I saw with that is the fall in sterling. It's fallen against the dollar but not against the Euro since we actually left. We've not recovered the initial sterling slump after the referendum.

I've travelled a fair bit since Brexit, and yeah it's mostly been longer passport queues and higher roaming charges. So your average 10 days in Benidorm Brit can probably take the hit.

But my sister-in-law lives in Spain, and sorting all the paperwork and the like has been a real struggle. My mate works for Spotify and it's been a struggle for him. I work in HE and it's had a impact on us. More paperwork, more red tape, more dealing with embassies, more competing tax codes, fewer funding opportunities, fewer students etc etc

Its not nice when those outside the tent tell you what they can see when they look into it

Yes, I can believe it based just on the very specific instance of student visa I mentioned above.

We've also travelled a fair bit since Brexit and slightly longer queues aside, it's not that much different.
Definitely takes longer to get past passport control in Paris and Barcelona, though.

Due to everybody having to fill in forms, I look back on the second half of 2021 as the golden age of travel. Quieter airports and cheaper flights!

Things are going to get interesting from next year with the ESTA-style visas and biometric passport checks for every visitor!

Aye, I think everyone is coming to realize that Brexit isn't the end of the world, it was never going to be, but it does make everything a bit shitter, products a bit more expensive, the paperwork a bit more burdensome, the queues a bit longer, the opportunities not quite as good as what we already had.

Haha! Kind of sums it up that all those things mentioned are worth it to the average leave numpty as long as you stop those pesky foreigners coming and stealing your jobs!
Rule Brittania and all that jazz..
