He was as good as his price. 40 mil was a stretch for him. 52.5M is too much

I'm not a Grealish hater but the argument I've read on here for his £100m price was that a player is worth however much a club wishes to pay.

The same should be said of Cucurella.

...but maybe I've butchered the argument.

When posters first learned he was linked = he's excellent, exactly what we need.

Now he's going to Chelsea = Overpriced, he's shit, no experience.

The life of a football fan.
Or as many said early door, good talent , had a great season worth about 30Million which was being rumoured, would be an asset.

Only when 50M was mentioned did negativity creep in long before chelsea started sniffing about

Also about 50 early pages were dedicated to eddie and whether he was a good keeper

Genuinely made me lol!

I still think he was the best available and the best fit.
Though it’s easy to fit anyone into the empty gap that is left back.

No Chelsea are being mugged off for an average at best player. He wasn’t on anyones radar that mattered 12 month ago hence him ending up at Brighton. Give your head a wobble and put your dummy back in, stop believing the hype and thinking we missed out on some world class international when we haven’t.
Never heard of him till he bagged against the Rags, but I don’t pay much attention to the diddy teams

I don’t see why Chelsea would go after a player that had no intention of joining them in the first place. The player is only at Chelsea because city would not stump up the required fee. Not sure I would want that type of character in our squad tbh. I am sure they will spin it anyway they want to appease the fanbase.
The player is only human. He's playing for a Champions League club and getting paid alot more for it.

Exactly what happened with Robinho. Same clubs, same situation.

He’s at Chelsea because he wants to be there. He’ll have doubled / trebled his wages; he’s now playing for a team that consistently wins / challenges for the top honours and, whilst it’s a pain in the arse to say it, some players (and he may be one) find the allure of playing in the capital quite persuasive.
I think we’ve missed out on what I think would have been a great addition to our team. But them’s is the breaks and football can be a fickle fiend.
He handed in a transfer request to go to city and ends up at Chelsea!

Not sure the capital was his original motive. Money probably. Still doesn’t answer the question. Chelsea have bought a player who wanted to go to another club.

You’ll find it far nicer now this transfer has finished.
I wasnt to bad whilst this was going on, then again i think i was respectful of the fact i was on another teams forum. I dint come on here to a dick and hopefully i added some valuable info, especially remembering the dark days both clubs gave had.We all support our own teams, but also were all football fans in general. So thank you all for being good to me aswell. Nit really looked at your main board only this thread, so now that this one is nearly done and dusted i will take a peep and mayge add some respectfull content to it.

I thought he was what we needed (without knowing an awful lot about him, if I’m strictly honest). City was his dream move (Chelsea’s a step up, but it clearly isn’t his dream move) and I still think he would have done very well here. But £50 million and then some? I rethought that, and it did come to seem an awful lot for someone who’s had one very good season.
As so often, I trust the club on this.
Now… next!!

100m for grealish baffles me to this date and yes, I guess you can make that argument and it is a Valid one. Atleast according to me

Means you’ve suddenly appeared on the thread. Was light hearted but hey ho.

I’ve posted a comment here and there but yeah obviously I had no interest in this thread when Chelsea showed no interest in him :)

Ok 3 weeks I’ve been asking this so now the deals dead can someone finally answer?
Why to some was he worth £50m+? What’s he actually done to warrant such a high fee that’s comparable to actual world class LB’s?
As I see it, and I’ll keep beating the drum, he’s had an ok season at a mid table club. Bar one years PL experience and a shiny glass POTY trophy, what’s justified the price?
Again I’ve said it before but I suspect it’s more about not filling the gap than the actual player.
