I've checked about 5 sites they all say the same.

My guess is they are all quoting transfermarkt.

Mahrez was announced by the club as our record signing. As was Rodri. I can’t find the OS announcement article for Mahrez but here’s the beeb and sky both quoting Mahrez as our record signing.

None of that makes any sense if KDB cost more.

The club know better than transfermarkt.com

Here are some more examples of reporting contradicting transfermarkt:

Sterling - quoted as £44m (+£5m) by the press - transfermarkt has it at £57m.

Otamendi - quoted in the region of £34m in the press - £40m on transfermarkt.

Grealish - quoted as £100m by everyone in the press - £105m on transfermarkt.

It was probably 25-30% higher than our offer. “Insane” would be offering 100-150 million. 55-60 million for a player under contract in the prem, who has the potential to help the team run the league/ champs league etc is other going rate. Chelsea have beaten us to it on this one. No denying it, no covering or buttering it up with talk of “over the odds “ etc. Plain and simple, we’ve lost out here.

How can you justify Cucurella going for 62m when Raphinha has gone for 48m rising to 55m? Madness.

Makes you wonder why Leeds didn't ask for 80-100 for Raphinha, especially with all the crazy valuations. Raphinha will become one of the best players in the world at Barcelona.

I hope if Barcelona come for Bernardo, we use the Cucurella deal as a barometer and start the bidding off at 100m upwards!

Amazing how Chelsea get a free ride from the media with their outrageous spending. Lukaku bought for £97 million and loaned back to after one season to Inter after being a total flop. Kepa bought for £72 million only to be replaced by Mendy and now on the verge of being loaned to Napoli. Timo Werner bought for £47 million and now due to be loaned back to RB Leipzig after 2 seasons and 10 league goals. Chilwell 50 million and now Cucurella £55 million rising to £62 million.

They'll go and pay 75 for Fofana and still buy a striker. God knows how they seem to get away with the criticism. As soon as we buy Haaland, every Tom dick and Harry are on BBC, SSN and on the back of every news outlet having a pop at us.

frustrating because this is good signing for Chelsea going to make them even better defensively. I literally give two shits about the fee. Does he improve them? Yes he does. I don’t understand this thing about fees, surely if the player improves your team you pay it.

£60m is too much regardless how good he is meant to be. Ake was available slightly for slighlty cheaper fee but is the better defender imo and Chelsea decided that was too much. Zinchenko went for half the price and is a full international and has helped us win a few trophies as a decent squad player.

City quite rightly pulled out of that. We could sign a better player for less than that.

Go on then who? Because every other LB we have been linked with is worse than Cucurella. And are worse defensively than Zinchenko was. So Chelsea strengthen their defence and we end up with an even worse option at LB. But we saved a few quid so happy days.
