Gas & Electricity

So we are willing to pay for this ludicrous carbon zero with the blood of millions of frozen pensioners and suicides as these outrageous fuel prices kick in - stop the world I want to get off.
Carbon zero isn’t what this crisis is about. Gas is a fossil fuel last time I checked.

If we were closer to carbon zero we wouldn’t be so dependent on gas and energy prices wouldn’t be rising by these ridiculous amounts.

I think he means the levys surely they along with vat could be fucked off as a start until this all blows over.

Just about twelve months ago I was paying £95 for my gas and electic per month. Then Kaboom!!! Now I'm paying just about £300 per month. Fortunately it's just me and Mrs Ed, I feel sorry for young families with kids, God knows what increase they are facing:-(

Not how I read it. “Ludicrous carbon zero” implies he thinks the whole thing is a waste of time when in reality if we’d invested more in it we wouldn’t be in as bad a position now. All the nuclear that’s gone offline over the last 20 years hasn’t been replaced for a start and that alone would have made a difference.

Fossil fuels are now the most expensive part of the overall energy mix and working towards reducing them would be beneficial economically as well as beneficial to our contribution in reducing the amount of greenhouse gases. Now that we are regularly seeing record breaking weather events quite regularly I find it strange that people are still prepared to ignore all that if they think addressing it might have an negative economic impact.

There needs to be more education about the real economic benefits of investing in nuclear and renewables as well as the benefits to the environment.

Western Governments are at fault here. If they had instigated in green energy years ago, nobody would be relying on gas to heat their houses. But there is big opposition to green energy and governments are mainly interested in being re-elected every 4 years.
The technology has been there for years, but it needs government investment to instigate. When gas was cheap nobody had the will or inclination to change.

They’ll be on board when it’s free.

Just a sensible strategy would be a good starting point.

Like you say, they’ve known for over 20 years about the requirements for investment in nuclear energy and failed to do anything. In a similar way, we have virtually no ability to store gas which seems very short sighted, and the retail side of supply is a mess.

Its going to take some sorting out but I think we need to have a complete rethink about becoming self sufficient as a nation, at least for ‘essential services’ such as water, transport, power, essential chemicals…

It should never have been possible to sell any of our essential services outside of our country.

Yes the majority of the shareholders are French and German. How did that happen? Energy is like bread and milk everyone needs it. Why did foreign companies get first pick.
See Sid tell him???
More like see Gunther or Phillipe tell him.
Madness.

So, the selfish strands of the 'public sector' who are striking or intend to to for more money, because let's face it - who else goes on strike or can afford to beside the public sector?

The public sector expects the general public to pay more tax to cover the inflation rises?

So, the so called educated among us - for example the ‘teachers’ etc...simply can't work out that the general public mathematically can’t pay a 300% energy price hike, ON TOP of soaring fuel food etc? and THEN pay their salary rises on top of that.

Yes they CAN WORK OUT the public can’t afford this, of course they can! - they just don’t give a flying fuck - teachers want a 3 day working week? for steady good salaries, ludicrous holidays and iron clad pensions - society doesn’t work. privatise everything. All in or none.

This winter and upcoming year/years is going to be carnage.

I'm not sure whether you've noticed but plenty of private sector workers have been out on strike lately

I know Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas, privatise everything, earn your money or don’t - taxed too much, somethings got to give. Are you a turkey?

I don’t know if you realise but public sector workers pay tax too.
