Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

Has it actually been confirmed yet that next weekend’s fixtures will also be postponed, or is there still a chance they could go ahead?
Can't see them going ahead, to be honest. When they postponed this round of games, over a week before the funeral, the chance of games going ahead two days before the funeral is remote.

Whilst I don’t agree with all your sentiments (oh and I am an ex serviceman) so hardly a raving commie, I just cannot see justification for cancelling all football games when a plethora of other sporting events are carrying on. Either the etiquette is Sports are stood down for the duration of the state mourning period, or they aren’t.
Football seems to have been singled out for special treatment.
It sounds from your post that football has somehow had its arm twisted, which patently isn't the case and I don't think that was what you intended to say.
I think the footballing powers that be have tried to prove themselves, to quote a maxim, more loyal than the king and in doing so have gone way beyond what was appropriate.

She was The Queen mate, who's been on the throne the past 70 years!

You may not like her or what she stood for, but millions do, so it is what it is.
That would only make sense if the whole of sport and entertainment events in the UK were suspended and we know they're not.
Why does the suspension of football alone go to express the grief and sorrow of the Queen's death when everything else is carrying on more or less as nornal.

As I understand it, all sport restarts on Monday so the following weekend including Sunday games will be OK.
However if the funeral is as we expected a week on Monday, then any planned games for that day/night will be cancelled.
Funeral probably Monday, possibly Sunday

Simple.. play every game next weekend on Saturday

Make them all a big occasion where football can pay its own tribute to her

The public should be given the choice as to whether they give up a weekend of football.

People can and do comprehend it’s a big moment in our country’s history. You can still go to a football match when you are in mourning and recognise that fact.

It doesn’t seem to be bigger than any other sport. Maybe we overestimate how big football is.

People in 100 years time will learn about this little 10 day period for 10 minutes in a history lesson.

There will have been at least 2 more coronations by then.
I think the age of the deceased generally goes a long way to determining what level of grief is expressed.
The Queen, and I do have the greatest of respect and admiration for her, with respect was 96 and not 36(as in the case of Diana.
In my opinion, the greater tribute would have been to see people paying their respects and tributes while going about their normal lives uninterrupted in the country she has helped to shape.

Apparently they're saying that they want them to go ahead but policing issues next weekend, especially in London, could prohibit this. Apparently the geniuses running our sport have now worked out that missing two weekends in this already unusual season could be highly problematic. So we'll probably end up with some games being played and not others which is going to disadvantage some teams. Clowns.

Forget the games every team gets a point

Nah respect for people in mourning isn't bullshit. It just isn't. I'll leave you guys to it though, I didn't think people would be so triggered over missing a days football.
It's not over missing a day's football.
It's over the inability of folk to understand why it's only the football that has been cancelled and not anything else.
If every sporting event had been cancelled then most people would be understanding of it

Mourning is not compusory , you dont have to care if you dont want to , just so you and others know
Thanks Kaz!

Now what can I do to enjoy the weekend...oh dear, no footie.
Might watch a bit of telly...Oh but there is nothing on but dead Queen stuff...
Let's put the radio on then while I'm driving...
Ahh.. every BBC channel is going on about the Queen being dead.
Oh well, I'm sure Talksport has some 'interesting' debate between brain dead presenters and idiot callers to take my mind off the Queen being dead

Oh no, apparently the Queen liked horses so they are gonna talk some guff about how much she liked racing.

Good Grief!

Why is EVERY channel dedicated to this? I guess that they have all had this stuff in the can and ready to go for years and are delighted to run the videotape and all bugger off for a few days and leave the royal-watcher weirdoes to run things for the next month.

This extended mourning is ridiculous. Where organisations feel they have to bring stuff to an end in case they get ridiculed by the right wing media. People can mourn without everything stopping. People have booked hotels, paid for travel and now they are fucked financially which is utterly wrong.

We all mourn loved ones. We can have a day off on the funeral and people can choose how they use it. Either travelling for the funeral to London or watching it on the telly.

This blanket expectation means everyone has to change plans. Lose money. Miss important stuff, many while being respectful don’t share the desire to spend nearly two weeks doing it.

Will the CL games go ahead, as I know people who have booked to travel. This isn’t fair. I liked Liz, respected her and feel sorry she has died but there is no need for cancelling stuff. Celebrate her life, this isn’t the 15th century we cannot stop the world. No one did it for my mum, or my granny. or yours. Those who wouldn’t want to go to any event due to this have the choice not to, those who would want to, have no choice. And for me forced mourning isn’t mourning at all. It’s utter bollocks.
I think she did a fabulous job for our country and was a good person. But I still agree with much of your sentiment there.

Thanks Kaz!

Maybe a bit of outdoors is in order mate.

It’s actually mad the amount of grown men in this thread moaning about a weekends football being cancelled. Is your life that dumbed down and devoid of anything else that a game being postponed affects you so much?

I’m actually more annoyed about grassroots and first game of the season being off, the Queen was an advocate of sport. I see no gain.

Don’t get me wrong the Spurs game is frustrating but I felt inevitable.

Thanks Kaz!

Every channel isn't.
