A republic would be better than a monarchy but I think the current Royals are quite a decent bunch. Better than a republic might be the way that Cuba operates. Despite the pressure of that nearby Republic, the USA, Cuba gets by in a very fair and equal way. Sadly, other Communist countries tend to give Communism a bad name. I'd love to see the UK run along Cuban lines. We have advantages Cuba doesn't have, and rather than the obscene rich lording it, we would have a good enough economy and nobody unemployed. What did the Queen give us? King Charles! A thoroughly decent man who I shall support in the meantime. : )What in pray tell me did she give us?

I’m interested, not least because I lost my Mum a few months ago, and I’m not mentioning that for any sympathy, but to ask what do you think mourning all day, all weekend does/should consist of?

The whole thing is sinister. The idea that their bloodline is somehow more dignified, more pure and all round superior to the rest of us. The idea that they are 'born to reign over us'. It makes me sick. It is in complete opposition to the basic principles of the modern world - that we're all born equal. That we're judged by our actions, not by the privileges gained through the accident of birth.
