I’ve refrained from saying anything so far to avoid offending a sizeable proportion of opinion. However, the situation has got out of all proportion with every event of note being cancelled and media outlets implementing a blackout in favour of churning out grief 24/7.

You could maybe understand it with a state-sponsored institution like the BBC but even then for how long? Let’s be honest; the profound sadness expressed in some quarters is nothing more than calculated PR, contrived for public consultation.

By all means mourn the passing of a decent, dutiful stateswoman and celebrate her life, but please let’s keep some perspective and not impose on the entire population. Each to their own. Not everybody defers to celebrity, aristocracy or privilege and there’s plenty of worse shit going on elsewhere in the world.

The commentator in the Miami, New England game has just randomly dropped into his commentary….And the Queen owned every dolphin in the UK.
 
At the coronation in 53, all us school kids were given a commemorative mug. I attached a rubber band to mine and used it as a yo-yo. Yup, band snapped, mug hit the ground and smashed. Would be worth 50p now.
