I can’t help but feel this out pouring of grief that is being projected around the world is part of a bigger thing.
We all know the royal family is part of ‘brand’ Great Britain. Let’s face it, people travel here to see Buckingham Palace and the idea of the Queen is an almost Disney like treasure to people.
I’m out the country for a week in Greece and the first thing that was mentioned to us on arrival at the hotel was the queen…
If Britain as a whole is not seen by the rest of the world to value the passing of such a figure with a mental outpouring of grief then it devalues the whole thing. If we don’t care then why should anybody else?
We’ve lost pretty much everything of our own identity thanks to the tory party / brexit over the last decade, and are largely an international laughing stock.
The Queen is / was one of the last part of this countries identity that remained intact.
For what it’s worth, i think the whole thing is laughably ridiculous, a hilarious sign of the times of morons trying to out ‘grieve’ one another publicly. Almost North Korea levels of mourning.
