Ref Watch

When I reffed in the Northern League they had a rule that you couldn't ref a team within 5 miles of your residence. So I couldn't ref Crook Town, Willington or Tow Law. However when it came

I suppose that they have these distance , and who they support rules for a fair reason, but I would rather just have the best refs whatever.

Well you said he was “a rag from a family of rags” which without actually specifying his father, is certainly implying it. You also agreed with a bloke who’d just made a load of random shit up, including him making a point of moving from Manchester to Cheshire for the sole purpose of registering with Cheshire FA. ( Which you can choose to do wherever you live ) Anyway, that really is my last word on the subject this time. Apologies if you felt I was being sanctimonious. It certainly wasn’t my intention.
Taylor is a rag. Get over it

I’ve mentioned this many times on here, but I’ve got three links to the bloke:
One mate went to school with him, another mate used to play for Alty who knows Taylor fairly well through Taylor’s interest in my mate through playing for Alty, a third mate is married to Taylor’s wife’s mate… as bizarre as it is, as uncommon this situation of someone from round here not being either City or United; Anthony Taylor is genuinely an Altrincham fan.

Lee Mason on the other hand - now he is a United fan!

I don’t know why some Blues get so worked up about Anthony Taylor. For me, he’s the best ref in the country these days. That’s why we get him for so many of our big games.

And why get worked up about Anthony Taylor so much but never get worked up about Lee Mason? It seems a bit odd, a bit like we’ve got a bunch of fans who are a bit obsessed with him.

He had a couple of shockers not sending off David Luiz and changing his mind to send of Fabian Delph, but outside that he’s usually a very good ref for us. Barely anything else controversial has ever happened with him.
He definitely referees our games differently, although he was OK yesterday. Probably to do with the fact we’ve not won in the last five matches prior to yesterday.
Take last seasons game at Spurs, their right back Tanganga had licence to kick fuck out of our players without being booked, then after his last foul Taylor decided to speak to Harry Kane and warn him, soon after he was substituted.

Yesterday Rodri got booked for his first offence relatively early in the game. The problem is he shouldn’t be refereeing our matches because it doesn’t sit right with the opposition fans, take Wolves yesterday, I know this for a fact as my in laws are Wolves fans, how does a referee that lives in Manchester referee City or Utd.

No mate, I’m done on the subject now. My only reason for bringing up the subject was to point out how fans of different clubs will judge a refereeing performance based largely on the result and just maybe, every time City drop points it isn’t due to a bent, rag loving, cheat.

And, yes. I was a member maybe 20 years ago. Made about two posts and have long since forgotten what my username was.
I thought a couple of pages back you said you were finished with the thread, however now as you're back, if not Wythenshawe, where exactly was the Alty fan brought up ?

He is the best referee in the Premier league, has been for 2 seasons.
He is the one I want for big games.

He has ambition to get to the top, so wants to do the best job he can.
Being the best referee doesn't get you to the pinnacle. Doing what PGMOL want is what gets you up the ladder. See Howard Webb and Mike Riley for proof.

No, I said I was done with the subject ( Taylor’s perceived ragness ) not the thread.

But so as not to be rude and ignore a direct question, his parents lived ( possibly still live ) just behind the Orange Tree Pub in Altrincham.

My boy who is a ref says Oliver and Taylor are our best refs and they will both be reffing at the World Cup in Qatar the only English referees there. We'll be there watching England so will get along to one of their games to have a look.

I disagree that he is the best ref in the league, for me he lets lots of little niggly fouls go, not necessarily bookings however, he never does the old 1,2,3, fouls so now your getting booked so, consequently the lack of him getting a grip of little fouls quite often leads to more dangerous fouls and he loses control of the players and game.
Think back to a few seasons ago when fern got sent of by him very late in the game because serg got pushed over the hoardings by a Chelsea player ( forget who ) which for me was a direct result of him losing control of the game by not giving fouls/bookings when warranted.

Oliver and Taylor for me.

So who are your top two ?

I agree with the basis of your reply. I wish they would referee rather than manage, a directive from Pigmol

There is life beyond pigmol .
To get to the top means eufa and FIFA approval.
The Premier league is underrepresented at International level precisely because Pigmol is a laughing stock.

Anyway to be the best in the Premier League does not necessarily mean they are elite.

Would better than Mason be more appropriate.

He booked a Wolves player for an accumulation of fouls on Saturday. Pointed out it was his 4th foul.

OliVAR and Taylor are building a reputation internationally. Can't see any of them getting a final yet.

Tierney, Attwell in the tier below them shows the dirge behind them.

Yes I think people should be more concerned about the rubbish refs below those two.
Pigmol and the FA are both to blame.

The FA for not recognising talent at grass roots and not putting relevant training in place.
And Pigmol for not doing something about the rubbish that is available to them.
The Premier League needs to put more pressure on them both.
