2022 World Cup Discussion

If you ever wanted a dictionary definition of "virtue signalling" or "performative action" this Hummel stunt would be perfect.

Hummel "We don't want to be seen during this world cup campaign" - But they've pushed this story to every newspaper to promote the kit.

They make their kits in asian sweatshops because they care about Danish values but not enough to pay Danish manufacturing prices.

They have not announced what % of profit is being donated to charity, so they're still profiting off these special edition world cup jersey's that they'll sell to anyone who wants to appear to be anti-Qatar.

It's 100% marketing. Profiting off the moral discomfort fans have about the world cup. "Yes I'm watching the World Cup but look I'm in this Hummel shirt that's blood red to protest the people who died, I'm not part of the problem"

If they genuinely wanted to not be seen, they would not make a special world cup edition shirt and they would provide the players with shirts that didn't have their logos on and they would do all that without mass press releases.

Who is going to go? Its madness having it there? Fans make football and this is going to be the most corporate lifeless event of all time.

I will watch it when its on but I have never felt so disconnected to a WC.
Spot on Gaudion! I will wager that they will run out of prawns during the first 3-days of the tournament and have to resort to cheese sandwiches for the remainder of the tournament!

Incredibly people will go, we have got a fully functioning class of society who attend every Olympics and World Cup, they have money and time and they can tell their friends "I have been".

Agree those people are out there. But lets see how ticket sales go for some of the minor countries. Can't see Ghana v's Korea being a big draw for the types of people who will make their way over.

Fucking amen. It’s actually quite sickening and their marketing dept will all be high diving each other whilst they’re smashing the beak this weekend.

The London Olympics are an example, even for the minor events the attendance was enormous. Hell people just accepted what event they got on a raffle just to say they were there.

Womens Euros too, big attendances and then after it was finished low WSL attendances back to normal.

If Hummel, or the Denmark football team, cared that much - wanted to make a statement that folk would really sit up and listen to - they’d boycott the Qatar WC. If Denmark win the WC (one leading company offering 30/1, with Croatia at 45/1) Hummel’s share price will sky-rocket. This WC is a massive commercial opportunity for Hummel. Its shareholders will be rubbing their hands.

Nothing wrong with you turning a profit, or a multi-million Krøner profit, come to that. Just don’t pretend it appals you.

Funny enough Ghana v Korea is one of the games I bought a ticket for. I have tickets for 17 games including England's 7 matches ( yes I know ha ha ). All of Canada and Australia's group games also. At present I'm getting to 7 out of the 8 stadiums that are hosting.

FIFA "encouraging" teams to have a 3rd strip. So expect Engerland to knock up a rainbow kit sharpish.

Have you been to Qatar before? I just dont see the 'locals' giving a shit. And if its reliant on tourists then I dont see enough going. Maybe i'm wrong.

1st time to Qatar, tickets have sold very well. I reckon many fans will try and attend many various games as it breaks up the monotony between England games which you get when you're there for a while. All Cat 3 tickets for my non England games which cost approx £60 each.

Won’t find a pork sausage or rasher of bacon for love or money over there.

This is the least interested I have been in a world cup in my life, think it's because of the time of year and also the national team playing dull or shite football.

Doubt I will watch much of it, but then I may feel more interested ince it starts
