Superb mate. Fantastic effort that. I missed the derby today as I was in London watching a mate race. It was a great day with a great atmosphere. Fortunately we got to see him in Greenwich at 6.5 miles and Embankment at 25 miles.

I did see another blue walking up the stairs in the tube with a Man City bucket hat on, it was not you was it GornikDaze?
No it wasn’t me although I think we were in similar places. Great day though on both counts

After a bit of advice please. I did the M’cr marathon this year which was my first. Thinking of signing up for it again in April. Problem is I am going to Barbados on holiday and get back 3 days before the race. As I’m on holiday, I will be drinking and eating rich food for 10 days. Is it madness to sign up for the race after a long haul holiday? Just wandering if anyone has done similar.

No I think you should be fine.
In the last week you shouldn't be doing much running anyway, ideal plan is you finish your training a week before the race.
I've done Manchester twice, the last time in April this year and I did a 12 week plan from January.
Best advice would be pick a training plan and stick to it.
Do the training, have the holiday and then the marathon. Easy

All depends on what kind of mara you want to run, if your going for a PB after a 10 days on the beer in Barbados forget about it, but if you just want to get round then it should be doable depending on your fitness and how hard you intend to party in Barbados, maybe a couple of runs in Barbados could help?
If you do enter manchester I've got a strava code for a fiver off if you want it?

Gone back into running after recovering from injury and to come back when Manchester weather decided to open up the heavens and completely drench me. God I hate running in the rain especially getting soaked feet

I’m fine running in the rain as long as it starts once I’ve begun running. Once I’ve started it doesn’t bother me at all.
What is difficult though, is getting myself out of the front door if it’s already raining.

But yeah, today was a bit biblical at times wasn’t it?!

Thanks for the reply. I will let you know on the Strava.

Yep indeed. It's really hard to get out the front door when it's starting. Makes me want to go to a gym trendmill instead

It's a proven medical fact that running in the rain is best, the reason we sweat whilst running is to cool the skin, running in the rain saves the body having to sweat as much, hence giving you more energy to crack on.
Plus it's great bombing along whilst all the other soft fuckers are hiding in bus stops and doorways so they dont get hurt by those nasty drops of water

Ah man, when it's raining I just want to get out the door! It's the best.

The freezing cold and dark in the early hours during winter, however...
Head torch and possibly a long sleeved t-shirt, it's a medical FACT that running in winter it is far better than playing with yer shiney new toy, the body uses complex methods at all times to keep the body at its core temperature, running in winter saves the body's energy from having to do this. HENCE leaving you more energy to crack on. Plus wheels are for hamsters

Last run of easy 3 miles before Sunday and Royal Parks HM. I have ran roughly 161 miles training plan including distances of 12, 11, 10 and 9. Average of 44 miles a month last 3 months (had long weekend away during this time with no running). Although was 12 week plan I spread it out longer to allow for holidays, work etc and did things like parkrun, circuit training with friends and also repeated some of the training runs. Think I'm trying to convince myself in my head I'm ready lol

Yeah, as it's now getting cooler and wetter again, I've found my running mojo.
Must be the fact I'm not happy running in heat (and it's much harder).
I started my love of running in the mid winter period, but concur the hardest bit is leaving the front door if it's lashing it down.

Was doing hill sprint reps last night, rain having its wicked way with everyone.

Can feel my passion for it returning (and fitness).

Went out for a 5k on my lunch yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it in the rain. I did take exception to some bellend in a van who obviously targeted me when he drove through a massive puddle!

Here's an insight and/or question.
As I ran to the location where the running club met for the hill session, I was huffing and puffing like a sea lion.
This was about a 1.5k distance. We also did a ten min flat warm up once there.
However, not long into the session and sprinting up the hill, I was able to run with the top quarter of runners (little bit behind them but still....).

Does this show anything to me as a runner? Or does it explicitly. demonstrate the importance of a warm up (not only loosening up but gearing the engine ready for some intensity)?

Similarly when I do a Saturday morning park run....huffing and puffing an nowhere near my 20:40 PB (5k park run).

Is this showing me that I'm not a morning runner AND need a good warm up (add in I run better in the winter too)?

The last track interval session I went to a couple of weeks ago and I was ticking off 3:59 per Km (although that's for intervals...I'd love to do that over 5k non stop to get that elusive sub 20 min)
