I agree.
It is sad to say but if Penny Mordant had not pulled out at the last minute and it had gone to the Tory membership, Rishi Sunak would have lost (again) for racial discrimination reasons as he did when he went up against Truss, even though he was favoured by a majority of Tory MPs.
So in a way, this whole sorry 6 weeks has turned out for the best. Boris Johnson coming back was just too ridiculous for words - he had only been booted out a few months ago - plus he wasn't really that good anyway. He didn't get Brexit done because we don't have control of our borders or our laws (the channel boats and the Rwanda thing is evidence of that). He was too much into green issues setting unachieveable targets - possibly at the behest of his wife. Plus he got rid of his smartest advisor (Dominic Cummings) also because he clashed with his wife and consequently his ally became his enemy.
Penny Mordant would have probably have been another Theresa May or another Liz Truss (although I do think her communication skills are better than both of those). But well done her for backing down just before 2pm. Well done Johnson, yesterday evening, too for doing the right thing - for once.
The Tory party must now stop the in-fighting and try to sort out multiple difficult situations, some of their making and some not - the pandemic and the war in the Ukraine for instance.
