The match didn't matter. The player looked lively, was a bright spark in a first half where something was off in the balance of the side. He got taken off at half time to redress that balance and maybe also to give him a rest ahead of a PL match at the weekend.

I don't see the need for strong opinions either way in this instance.

Imo we suffer from a lack of through balls and a lack of diagonal runs.

I would love to see our front players swap and change as they dart left and right looking for the opportunities to run onto perfect throughball. But we'd give away possession over and over with not every throughball being perfect and many runs being too soon resulting in countless offsides.

But if we found a balance, I think you'd see all the front players thrive (especially Grealish and Alvarez).

Alternatively I'd love too see Grealish tried in the middle so he could run through directly (and be fouled).

Basically I guess I'm saying that going around the sides often makes Grealish (and most others) look static. And I miss Yaya. :-)

I think introducing the changes you suggest would elevate us from mid table security certainly, but we would need a coach with a different philosophy-;)

Played very well yesterday. Gutted to see him yanked but hopefully he gets this weekend as well.

Same here. He just went off tactically and I think Dias was the issue first half last night. In the absence of Rodri coming to pick the ball up off him he was very slow and ponderous bringing it out and it fucked us up

Dias didn't have anyone to give the ball to first half. Lewis was tucked in and not really offering himself for the ball. Mahrez and Palmer didn't quite grasp the system. When Mahrez did get the ball he couldn't do much more than go back to Dias. The left side was more structured and more successful. Rodri came on and enabled Lewis to be a more traditional RB which gave Dias options and just gave us more balance in general.

Please Jack. Just get your hair cut. Your performances will improve at least 10% without all that stuff weighing you down & getting in your eyes. In fact you & Erling could do a sponsored haircut for children in need. He cuts yours, you cut his.

needs a couple of De Bruyne type early crosses in his game and everyone will be off his back

Grealish tried something like that when he played for Villa and England. But mostly from right midfield I guess he can only cross from right side but rarely played in those area for us.

Side note: Perhaps Kev is giving "how to cross like KDB" lesson for all our players :)

What KDB has cannot be taught, his ability is genius levels.

He was ok the other night but yet again people are making excuses for him, why?

Wednesday it was Dias, before if was because he has no overlapping FB, WTF, top players can play with anyone, with any type of tactic, that's why they are top players.

All that's left now is to blame Eddie. We would get there before the end of the season.

One person mysteriously mentioned Dias.....so not 'people'.....and there really was no need to 'excuse' his performance as he was as good as anyone in that first half of bizarre Pep tactical approach.

He is a top player,as is proven when he plays and makes the team tick better and offers better balance, you just refuse to recognise it.

you start the post saying grealish played as good as everyone else in the first half (let’s face it everyone was poor first half).

You then end the post by saying we play better with him despite us turning around the 1 0 deficit with a much improved second half performance after he was taken off.

I’m not naive enough to suggest the sole reason we won was because we took grealish off but equally I don’t see how you can suggest we play better with him in the side.

You say he is a top player which he has proven. Well what constitutes a top player in your mind? Because to me he has yet to prove anything at city.

You also seem extremely critical of mahrez who to me has produced much more throughout his career whilst also offering the same qualities grealish posses (good ball retention, good dribbling etc). Grealish is basically mahrez without the goals and assists.

When we win with him in the team I don’t ever feel we won because of grealish it’s more in spite of him. He came off the back of a huge transfer fee and fanfare from the euros. I watched him a lot for villa and I was never blown away by his performances and the grealish we have now at city is very similar to the one I saw then.

I see posters bemoan the fact he plays lw (despite the fact he plays there for England and mainly did for villa albeit with a slightly different role), I see posters blame pep for taking away his creativity, no overlapping winger…. the excuses go on and on.

Grealish is a good player but to make a career at city that isn’t enough, he isn’t brilliant at anything imo he doesn’t posses elite pace, his shooting is erratic, passing is safe and his dribbling (his strongest attribute) is miles below that of Bernardo (a genuine world class player).

The fanboys such as yourself are going to have to accept that grealish will attract criticism from city fans. A player who cost 100 mil and is not producing game winning performances imo frustration from fans is justified. Deep down you know you expected more from him here, he just hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Grealish is a nice squad player to have but for the price we paid we all expected a nailed on starter. Think it’s fair to say grealish doesn’t even get into our best starting eleven and judging by the team picked at anfield I think it’s obvious pep agrees.

I don't think he has proven anything to anyone at this time in our shirt, that's the issue.

But I hate when fans of certain players give lists of excuses why their favorite are not performing at their best, it's weak.

The list of excuses for Grealish is far too long from his fans.
