Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

It’s a good point but there are still no teams in Europe we aren’t capable of beating. Europe remains weak as piss. I expect Liverpool to see Madrid off and that will just leave them and Bayern for us to worry about. The fact we’ve still not won it purely on Pep
People are already looking past Leipzig? They've got far more attacking talent than Newcastle, Villa, or Brentford and a much better midfield than the latter.

For me we went downhill after the Laporte injury ...dunno why but I noticed the Brentford players keeping warm running around and doing sprints and turns whilst our boys remained static just chatting...

We looked leggy to say the least..

I’ve never met one traumatised, the ones I talk to have long got over it it an moved on. The lack of any perspective to a defeat on here is mad.
There are a couple on here who have never forgiven him and never will. It means every small blip since and moving forward is pounced on.
They are few and far between though thankfully.

Our pressing from the front is almost non existent. On Regular basis, it is only Kev who does it and Alvarez, when playing. Foden and Mahrez, are token efforts.

Just watching Brighton v Villa , eight minutes of injury time, mainly for time wasting! Yesterday eight minutes for the Laporte injury and just two additional minutes for all the substitutions, deliberate time wasting by Brentford and other injuries. it just goes to show the Ref had completely lost the game yesterday in the second half.

Wish he’d only played 7

Rinse & repeat.

Yesterday was particularly infuriating and disappointing. So many player were under par. Kev's passing for instance.

It's the brainlessness that annoys me. Too many poor decisions. Cancelo's foul for the first goal. Akanji shooting form range - how did he think that aded up! Overcommitting at the end - make the fuck sure you keep the hard won point you have.

I don't usually mind Pep not making subs and he obviously thought about it but, for instance stuck with Gundo for his runs into the box (and TBF Gundo should have put us ahead). I wanted Gundo repalced by Jack at HT. And I would have introduced Kalvin Phillips in the second half to try and win more second ball.

A shame Ake and Walker were not available but no excuses.

I love how we play football but I do think yesterday we should have been more direct at times and crossed the ball more - a game for playing the percentages in my view. Pep probably didn't want to give cheap possession away though because Brentford's long ball game was hurting us.

The tactic of defending deep in large numbers and hoping to hit us on the counter or from a set-piece will work a small number of times a season. We'll have days when we are under par and teams will get away with smash and grab. Daft that we call 29 shots and 75% possession under par but our lack of quality in final third on day cost us as did some poor defending.

The World Cup is a major wild card in this season but however they get on their - most will come back disappointed - our players need to come bck and do what they usually do in the next part of the season.

Thats all fair, and if others made the similar constructive criticisms of a particular game , thats fine. What gets me is the minute we lose those coming out wanting rip it all up and play in ways Pep is never going to play or doubting Pep can see what went wrong, and it will be lots of little things contributing including the world cup, and that he won’t be able to fix it, when all the evidence is he can and will.
Basically throwing the baby out with the bath water, even saw one post saying we’d have won what we’ve won with Pep, with Mourinho and had C/L as well.
Ironic that our two defeats have come in games Grealish hasn’t played, considering he gets the worst stick on here when he plays, a coincidence ?

We have had a lot of games this season under par, and with your logic halland has no dissapointment to deal with, so we should expect more than 3 touches per game from him?

Not to mention a woefully out of form Sterling being picked.
Don't think he'd started for a few months before that final either if memory serves. Completely bizarre decision. As was playing the only game of that season that didn't have either Dihno or Rodri sitting in the biggest game of all.
Almost felt like it was more important for him to win the Champions League without a recognised forward and utilising the 'false 9' and receive all the plaudits for that than actually win it at all. Felt sorry for Sergio that day.... as well as myself. Haha.

It's not the minute we lose though is it, I have been to every home hame this season, we have
Not looked great apart from the first 45 against the rags, we got done yesterday, scraped the game the week before, beat Leicester by 1 bit of magic, drew 2 consecutive champions league games 0-0 got done by the dippers, yet everything in the world is good amd we will piss the league, and if anyone who cam see the truth dares speak it, you get shit on here

Even though we didn't play well, we put enough into that game on Saturday to have won it twice. What we saw is seen every Saturday by some poor fan who at the start of the game is counting how many goals he's gonna see. What he hasn't factored into his afternoon is yet another whistling wanker and his cronies in the VAR shed making sure that he doesn't get the expected tally and his main man is gonna draw a blank. Two blatant pens that Haarland converts just chalked off via the PL apology for a video assistance system, and, hey ho, another bad day supporting yer team.
