Was a good signing with the injuries we’ve had at CB this season but is playing too often. Looks like a 5th choice CB. Too passive in his defending for me.

Some harsh comments in here, I think he's done alright on the whole

Another one who played every game at the world cup, as well as most games leading up to going away

Let's be honest, we need to get back to Walker, Dias, Laporte and Cancelo asap if we are to put a serious run together

Ake and Akanji are doing a decent job, but if you told me a year ago that these two would be regular CBs I'd be very concerned

Reading the Ake thread you would think he was the 2nd coming of Beckenbaur. You’re 100% on the money. We have these two starting far too many games, when neither would get a game at many of our rivals.

Stood off his man for the goal,a worldy btw....but other than that he was decent,as he has been since his arrival. He's been an excellent signing.

If you think he was the problem today, football aint for you.

I don't think he could have done much about the goal. He was outnumbered 2 and 1 and tried to track the over lapping winger. Need to watch it back again but it was a worldly of a goal. Just one of those freak things.

Not sure how this guy is getting away without any criticism.

He's had more poor games for us than good, and gave Gray far too much time and space to shoot today.
There is a reason why Dortmund fans didnt like him and here our fans call him Next Vincent Kompany. He is serviceable player but anything beyond that is overrating him

Stones was excellent the season before signing Dias? That's not how I remember it at all, he was on the verge of being our on his arse as he'd been shite for about 3 years. Dias came in, Stones played with Dias and regained his confidence. Laporte was the one to miss out iirc, after dropping some clangers of his own
Could have Stones mixed up with Laporte but point still stands. I feel like Pep does that do players don’t rest on their laurels. I’ve noticed that also in midfield, like Bernardo had a great previous season (not talking specifically about next season), next season he starts on the bench. I think it’s a motivational tactic from Pep.

Needs Ruben back in the defence to organize it!

Problem is Pep will keep rotating them to give them all games. This is what happens when you buy a CB when it was not needed when we all know what position we needed to strengthen.

On form Ake tops the lot.
Why do people keep saying stuff like this? Are people not watching how we are defending?

Ake is a serviceable CB who should be used sparingly to give other better players a rest. Last season he was a bit-part player, involved in just 14 Prem games and we win the league with the best defence. This season he has already played in 10 games and our defending as a team has become comical. He has somehow gone from our 4th choice CB, to playing every week. How and why?

Liverpool went from Champions to barely making top 4 when they were forced to play their back-up CBs. How would Arsenal get on if they all of a sudden started playing their back-up CBs? Does anyone even know who Arsenals 4th choice CB is?

It’s not like we City fans don’t know what a top-class CB looks like, we’ve had plenty of them over the past 10 years and we still have 3 of them at the club now. How people are getting excited over a guy who has been in England for a decade, and has only managed to hold down a regular place at Watford and Bournemouth is beyond me. He is a top 6 CB…before you and others lose your mind over this…which rival is putting him in their best XI? He doesn’t get in Arsenals team, he doesn’t get in Liverpools, he doesn’t get in Chelseas, he doesn’t get in Uniteds and with Newcastles defensive record I doubt even they put him in. Yet here we are at City, the supposed best side in the world playing him nearly every week and to make it even worse we are playing him alongside the 5th choice CB. It’s borderline self-sabotage and plenty on here are celebrating it.

Part of the reason we’re playing him so often is our fuck up at full back. Replacing Zinchenko with a player that is so shit that Pep now simply refuses to play him at all has meant that Ake is playing left back a lot. Also Cancelo’s form dropping off a cliff hasn’t helped, plus Walker’s fitness issues. All of that together has meant a lot of centre backs playing full back, which means more game time for the likes of Ake and Akanji. But I think Ake has been very good this season in general. Akanji though is starting to look scarily bad.

I accept the injuries part to a certain degree and if Ake and Akanji had been playing every week solely because of injuries, I would say fair enough, but we have been fucking about with CB rotation all season. The results of this are there for all to see.

We barely look any better at the back now, than we did when Fern was having to fill in there a few seasons ago. Anytime the opposition attack we look like conceding, which is a strange position to be in given how good Akanji and particularly Ake are rated on here. It doesn’t add up.
