Pep’s Spurs (H) Post-Match Interview

I never booed on Thursday as I was getting the pints in, missed both the spuds goals but for a joke I shouted Pep out at the screen

Well, that then ended up in a bit of a row with 2 women and I think 2 sons. Although one of the women was old so they could have been her grandsons

I normally would have said, it's a joke but one woman called me a spurs fan, one was more rude

So I dug in. Said its my opinion and mentioned a few of his mistakes, stubbornness etc

Anyhow, I hope to see them tomorrow and ask how they feel seeing as he had a dig at home fans.

I bracketing myself in the greatest fans as I go all away games and he said we are the best.......
I'm not sure this anecdote makes you look like the hero of the story tbh.

Pleasing to hear Pep put the boot into the leadership upstairs.

The Board of Directors must be quietly celebrating the ‘net spend trophy’, and half expecting an invitation for a lap of honour on the final day of the season.

It both annoys and amuses me that the Board endorsed the sale of Raz and Zinny without replacing them. I can hear them slapping one another on the back over a glass of port, and admiring one another’s business acumen and financial penny pinching.

While our Board celebrates the ‘net spend trophy’, Arsenal, Chelsea and the scum will be moving heaven and earth to overtake us.

City aspire to be the biggest club in the world. It’s time the Board actually took the gloves off financially, backed Pep to the hilt, and stop making Pep fight battles with one arm tied behind his back.

So good on you Pep!
Apart from the failure over time to recruit a world class left full it is nonsense to suggest that Pep has not had all he needs in terms of investment. The club would also appear to be well placed financially to deal with replacing players likely to depart in the near future. We might even see that arm behind Pep's back freed up.

Did you catch the Alvarez goal?

Where I sit in CB3, there are four seats in front and four behind that are held by a Scandinavian supporters club. There are eight different people in those seats each game. At both the Palace and Spurs games at half time, we are two nil down, and most of the eight have booed loudly, clearly really annoyed that their once a season, expensive trip to watch the champions is not going to plan. They seem to feel cheated or personally let down, because they are attaching themselves to City because they want to be associated with success.
Perhaps it is like shelling out for concert tickets to watch a legendary band, and they don’t play any of their greatest hits. You would be a bit let down.
This is the new fan demographic the club wants and wishes to monetise, but it comes at a cost and the team cannot have a bad patch or even a bad half.
Well, you don’t know them personally, you don’t know why they support City. Everyone has their reasons.

It sounds like they’re fans who are part of a supporters club and have put a lot of money and effort into coming to watch city.

If they want to boo, then they’re entitled to do so. We shouldn’t accept mediocrity. We aren’t that club anymore.

Two lads in front of me came 20 mins late and left at half time. They’d travelled up from down south.

Serves them right :’)

Thank god you don’t sit near me.

Two observations from me, at least one of which maybe seems to have gone unnoticed.

I have seen 3 different interviews on the night, with different people/channels. In all 3, he said the exact same things, some word for word. So no, this was not a he flipped, spur of the moment rant of emotions getting the better of him. It was planned, and he knew what he was saying. And why. And as others have pointed out chose his timing perfectly, he might well have been waiting a few games to say it.

The second one, one of the most telling moments seems to have gone somewhat unnoticed, where he gave away what really drives him. When he said, I dont want to be a team of happy flowers, I want to beat Arsenal. Loved it. For all his, 'I just want to see my team play like they can', 'I don't care about the title I want to see the desire', 'one game at a time' talk, he fucking wants it, he wants it bad. A brief moment, but showed his true drive, and I was delighted to hear it.

Pep is very spot on comments about our home fans. WTF!?!? Almost no noise/energy to support our lads. Homefield advantage all but disappears under these conditions. And it's not just this game - lack of home fan noise/support/enthusiasm has been an issue for many home games running this season.

Pep did however point out that our away fans are fantastic. Watching away games, it's frequently the case that Manchester City chants/songs/applause swamp the home crowd.

Take yourself and myself out of the situation and think about some of our fans. We’re not all the same inside. What I mean is I think some fans will have seen their arse over it and it could potentially lead to a split/fractious atmosphere at games especially if we go behind. Hope not but if you constantly have digs at somebody there comes a tipping point and some fans may be getting close to that with Pep seeing as it’s not the first time he’s had a pop.
Just saying like.

I heard a stat on Why always me podcast that on average aguero got around 45-50 touches a game… Haaland is in the mid-20s (which is not a criticism of a Haaland - just a fact he sees comparatively less of the ball)

If you couple that with typically our wingers are high, wide and inverted - then you have three creative players seeing much less action and the reliance is on the midfield to make up that creativity

It’s no wonder we are struggling to make chances
I wish he’d come a bit deeper at times and rotate a bit more with the front three players , Harry Kane does it superbly , hold the ball up , what’s certain is Harry Kane is technically better, as others have said , we just don’t use him properly, and we’ve had plenty of time to adapt to him , play balls through to him through the middle sometimes.

Yeah you’re soooo right. That board have stopped us winning any trophies over the last 10 years. It’s a disgrace

It's not even true about the left back position as Mendy would have been that player excepting for serious injuries, and then his off field shenanigans.

I've had a few mates say, who the fuck does he think he is I pay for my ticket not him, If I don't want to scream and shout that is my prerogative, the atmosphere is generated by the team and there desire, he gets paid to sort things out on the pitch.
They ain't impressed with his outburst, FOC's like me who've been going for donkeys years, they went to games before Pep and will go after he's left us.
Personally I take it as a rallying call.

Bang on
Pep is a winner and one of the best managers ever.
I’ve seen people on here say he has felt the pressure, bullshit
He ain’t arsed about a few fans booing - he probably agrees with them on the end of the first half as he sets high standards.
Those fans only have them high standards because of pep being here!!!
He has seen the players attitude and effort drop and he has chosen now to have a pop and burst the bubble of the comeback and keep them on the ground
That’s to say we won but it’s still not acceptable
He isn’t Klopp so he won’t blame the pitch, the ref, the weather
He is trying to get the whole club going and all the fans moaning will be cheering tomorrow as a result

I’m not saying nobody ever leaves at half time. But when I was up on the third tier, my mate in the posh seats on level 2 would always let me know if there were seats unused near him and we’d go and join him for the second half if there were. Was only up there one season but anyone observing our comings and goings will have had us leaving on 40 minutes in about 12/19 games that year.
