They were shocking yesterday, the standard of their play is awful. They’ve got big problems refreshing that squad. It shows how desperate they are when they want Milner to extend.

Focus should be on their stock piling of forward players. Nunez hasn’t had the impact his fee should reflect, Diaz is a headless chicken. Jota is made of the same stuff Roque Santa Cruz was, the new guy looks like the second coming of Ryan Babel. They’ve pissed a lot of money away and given Salah a whopping contract on top of that and not solved any of the alarming problems they have elsewhere on the field. They’ve lost that ability to dink balls into their wide forward players and isolate defenders. They can’t press anymore and their defence can easily be got at.

I fear the Diaz injury compounding injury he’s sufffered might be career altering. He is their best game-changing individual since Mane pissed off.

The BT Sports commentary for the dippers was off the scale.

Encouraging and cajoling their in-play, even convincing themselves and the viewers the game was exciting for the neutrals and fans, at one point Darren Felcher was begging for a goal from dipper Joke Homez, justifying it by saying he hadn't scored in his career so far.

The post match analysis was even funnier, it was like attending an expensive private mental health counselling session for both clubs.

"Yeh but they got injuries", "they are missing key players", ooh "baby steps", ooh "a clean sheet and they can build from there", ooh Cakpoo "needs patience and time from the fans", at one point both pundits representing the teams spat out the same cliches of no value whatsoever in "xxx cloob would give their right arm to be in top four at the end of the season."

No critical analysis, no shining a spotlight on how the quad squad are currently scrambling in mid table, no questions on why both clubs are buying players in January, ignoring the gaping holes in key areas, not even a discussion about the offside goal, just a gentle, softly, softly praise to soothe the ears of the gegen-depressed kopshites.
