It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

That was due to injuries though, we were completely wrecked at the back. You can't keep buying just in case. Otherwise when they're all fit you have too many unhappy players who aren't playing. We definitely could do with a LB, but I don't know what the realistic options are there, and Ake has been brilliant so far whether at LB or CB. We don't need our LB to do as much now we have Lewis who is playing well in the inverted role as a RB. We've just switched the roles of the full backs accordingly.

Yes, due to injuries, as stated, at the time to Stones (currently injured), Dias (injured from World Cup and has played 1 minute since), Aké and Walker. Akanji was bought due to the injuries and recovery expectations after surgery. Using this group of CBs as additional cover for FBs doesn't make sense.

Rico Lewis has been superb but he's now the only FB that plays that inverted role effectively - on either side. So he'll have to play the majority of games or we'll have to change tactic. It's a strange squad strategy that has very, very little wiggle room for injuries or drops in form.

Disagree there, first game of last season at Spurs, we had Mendy, Zinchenko and Cancelo on the books.

Now we have Gomez who's a Pere Guardiola Ponzi scheme and a centre half shuffling across.

It's woeful business.
It’s utterly ridiculous for Sergio Gomez - who isn’t good enough to be here in the first place - to be the only recognised left back at a club the size and scale of City.

I also agree on the Pere Guardiola Ponzi scheme. It simply doesn’t smell right for the manager’s brother to be processing sub-standard players through the club, with City bearing all of the downside risk.

1. 100-150 million.
2. We don't need one to play both sides, surely we sign a top LB this summer to be used with Ake next season. With Rico and Walker at RB until summer 24, then walker out and new RB in.

This summer we need to be looking at CMx2, RW and a LB. 250-300mil spending with around 100-150mil (Laporte/Silva/Cancelo) sales. Can't hide from that fact that this season has looked stale and we're in a transition period.

Was basing the both sides fullback off what Tolmie said. I personally do t care if we buy a left-back or not as we don't seem to play with fullbacks any more. It's usually 3 centre-backs with two DMs in front now (Lewis has been doing this).

Seems to have been a choice by Pep in terms of tactics. If however he decides to switch back to 4 at the back, then yes we definitely need a left-back and possibly a right back. Lewis is very good inverting as a DM, but I'm not sure yet as an out and out right back.

because Cancelo is leaving and there's a space in the squad...

Who says Pep doesn't rate him at all? Likelihood is he was sent on loan as there would be very limited opportunities, but maybe some have become available.
Cancelo has been an issue pre and post World Cup, JWE is simply not good enough.

yeah its pretty mad when you put it like that.

Its almost like theres the belief that we're good enough in other areas of the park, so we can make do with a make shift player there. I dont get it personally. We've chucked crazy amounts about for defenders the past few years, yet we cant seem to identify anyone suitable for LB.

I'd imagine at a push perrone would play as an inverted full back with a traditional right back. And Lewis as inverted full back with ake as traditional left back. Think laporte will also play as a traditional left back if needed. I get the feeling pep wants us solid and 70% possession and hopefully kdb and haaland do the rest.
well he cannot like I told you. he is physically weak and besides the point will you just play david silva in LB just because you can? unless ake, gomez and laporte are injured. even then bet rico or foden plays there before perrone who are natural in the wide areas.

We know exactly why Gomez stayed with us,who also isn't a recognized left back, nothing mysterious about it. We've spent years without a recognized left back Cancelo wasn't one either . So why so bothered about it now.

If we stick with this system. We just have to ensure Ake and Laporte are always fit. Remember we had Delph at lb

No. That is a very stupid example. How the fuk is david a holding defensive left footed midfielder
well same way people here are thinking perrone is a defensive left footed midfielder. just because a player plays deeper in the midfield does not mean they are a defensive player. do you thing gundogan will make a awesome right back?

Sometimes our LB search baffles me.
When we were going all in for Cucurella, the talk in the transfer circles and Brighton forum was they have already identified Pervis Estupiñán from Villareal.
And they got it right again. I have seen quite a few Brighton games and he would fit perfect with us. Some people recommended a 60 million bid for him.

People often joke about stealing the Brighton scouting department but what am I missing. How could City scouting can’t identify one such LB?
City's scouts have identified plenty of left backs. Can't force Pep to want them.

Reliable too, coming from Jack. Interesting one Maddison. Brilliant player who has linked well with a rapid Vardy for a few years and assuming it would involve a change of style in some aspects.

(Not sarcasm) it would be interesting to see who he would choose. Us with a load of rotation/time on the bench (Jack) or Newcastle as a guaranteed starter at the start of their project.

Article also namedrops Leao and Chilwell and a shift for Foden into midfield if we get a winger.
