Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Akanji really is the £16m defender he is.

Doesn't get touch tight, Pep screaming at him repeatedly to do so.

Can't win shit in the air and positionally weak.

The drop off is huge which is a shame, because he looked composed on the ball when he first arrived.

Walker has defo peaked and, dare I say it, losing a bit of pace.

De Bruyne continues to frustrate and be careless, while Mahrez played for himself.

Decent first half from Bernie, Gundo and Rodders, and job done by then.

A second half to forget, such was the boredom.
The drop off from Dias to Akanji was certainly noticeable. For me with the Dias/Laporte platform (and stones fits this) we are a miles better team and move it between the lines son much better. Disagree about KDB though. I thought he was pumped up and at his best.

Good first half and the damage was done. Hopefully saving legs in the second half for Wednesday.

Have to mention the shithouse Villa fans for booing Grealish. I couldn't believe it for a second and then I remembered the self entitled twats did the same with Barry. Wanted Jack to score soooo badly!!!

Mahrez worst player? lol, he was involved in all three goals, even the second one. Some people ... smh
Sorry but being able to put in a decent corner and score a penalty are two of the absolute basics things required to be a good footballer.. And I'd love know what version of the 2nd goal you saw that involved Mahrez because he wasn't involved at all?

Generally pleased with the result and the first half was good to watch. Second haif mostly OK but too error prone at times. However, I worry about the Mahrez penalty - chest high, almost half way between the keeper and the post. Fortunately the keeper guessed the wrong way but if he’d gone the other way there was a good chance he’d save it.

Fucking hell, Haaland created two goals for Gundogan today, one incorrectly ruled out. Alvarez is a decent back up, but he's no comparison to to Haaland
Yes dont disagree but he can either be on fire or hardly touch the ball like at spurs last week when we really needed a top performance. Based on his stats you have to pick him but sometimes he can be flat.

Stones and Dias are my favourite pairing… but Laporte has aggression which is sometimes needed whilst boulders is more silky.

We play two out of the three of Dias, Laporte and Stones at CB for the rest of the season and we win the league. The step up in quality is huge. That's not to slag off Ake and Akanji but they are backup level, not first choice. We gain so much offensively wirth our first choice CBs.
Got to agree. Also needs to be a more settled unit. And if Ederson could stop the odd shot it would do us another favour!!

I know exactly what he meant I'm not thick and it's a useless fucking statement. The game is over 90 minutes not 45. He might as well have said last season, "Ahh City might have won the last 15 minutes and the title but Villa won the first 75." It's utterly ludicrous and a pointless statement.
Wow. Very sensitive lol.

Dont forget Delph too. The fucking bellends hated him and City for signing him

There's probably been a half million words on here since our drop in form in October, and without wanting to sound really basic about it I do think some of it is as simple as we have three of the best 10 CBs in the world and not one of them has been playing.

Why are De Bruyne and Mahrez assigned to take corner kicks then if any decent player is expected to do them ably? idem for PKs. The truth is Mahrez had a very good game. I'm not arsed to go into details about that. Just go check the MEN or Whoscored ratings. For the 2nd goal, go see who closed down on Buendia and made him lose the ball before De Bruyne's pass. You're wrong on all accounts in fact. End of.
