North Stand Construction Discussion

Both clubs are pretty much constantly sold out so I'm not sure what the point of comparing to anything else is? Pricing is another topic entirely. I can't say I've seen any sensible answers as to how you get only local fans in at cheap prices when the "tourists" could equally buy the same tickets?
I replied to a post asking would we fill a 70,000 stadium. Some people, even some of our own fans, don’t think we’ll fill this new stand in a 62,000(?) stadium.

City could have a stadium the size of Old Trafford and United could have a stadium the size of the Camp Nou and priced accordingly we’d both sell out. Whether we both sell out now is neither here nor there really, both stadiums are far too small for the size of our fanbases. And it would be fair ticket prices that would determine the eventual capacity.

54,000 is quite a piddly little stadium in my eyes. That we’re selling that out now isn’t a good achievement for a club that once had an 85,000 stadium and have dozens of attendances over 70,000. Plus when it’s £68 a ticket for adults and £37 a ticket for kids, we don’t sell out.

West Ham have shown this. They historically have only the eleventh all-time highest average attendance but have moved into a stadium where they now have the second highest average attendance in the country, and they don’t even win or even challenge for anything.

Spurs stadium is very nice, but it’s 15,000 seats too small, Arsenal’s is about 25,000 seats too small. Liverpool are adding to their stadium but even when they’ve joined this new bit onto the Anfield Road end, it’ll still be about 30,000 seats too small for their fanbase.

Liverpool have a very limited number of £9 tickets per match. They have less season ticket holders than we have because they have more match day ticket sales and make more money that way from the tourists, day trippers and Norwegians.
All Junior tickets are £9 in every stand for all Prem games at Anfield

Even then, Liverpool could have as many season ticket holders as West Ham if they wanted to and increase their match day tickets and get 90,000 going to games if they priced things right for everyone.

We think far too small in the Premier League.

Fair play to the dippers. They've got that right.

It would also be nice for Edin to be there as without his goal for the 2-2 we wouldn’t have been in a position for 93:20. Maybe even invite mad Mario back to recognise the importance of his assist.
Also, give one to Nasri for mistakingly letting the ball out, which allowed QPR to give us the ball back, which allowed VK to sprint up field with the ball, which allowed...

I wouldn’t name it after a player. I always think that street names or town names or nicknames like the Kippax Stand and Stretford End or the Spion Kop are much better names than player name stands.

The North Stand’s closest area is Miles Platting and its nearest street is New Viaduct Street. So neither of those are fitting enough to be named as a stand.

So the nicknames are going to be better. Some I came up with earlier in the thread are:
The 93.20 Stand
The Great Northern End (it’s the North Stand, it’s the Northern end of the stadium, we are Northerners, Great Northern is a warehouse in the city centre, the ‘Great’ gives it a bit of ‘umph’…)
The Wonderwall
The Pit (after the colliery on the site).

I’m sure others will come up with some decent, worse and better ones n’all.
The Bradford End would be a nice nod to the history of the area - and 93:20 would be great if they hadn't used it for the lounge.

We’d easily get that if the prices were right.

City (and United) are fucking clueless when it comes to getting fans in our stadium. More people attend football matches at all the other clubs in our conurbation than they do City or United games.

City’s best attendance this season is 53,453
United’s best attendance this season is 73,711

All our clubs from the Championship to the the North West Counties Premier Division - 9th tier - (that includes 18 clubs and there are more lower down who also get a few thousand fan between them but there’s no official stats) best attendances from last season combined comes to 75,034!

Nobody’s telling me that there are more fans of all the other clubs combined than there are City or United fans in our conurbation. The two clubs are run by people who don’t understand Manchester, Mancunians, the local or national economy/incomes… they’re just run by people who need to justify their salaries and bonuses by showing revenue spreadsheets to their bosses.

City could get 65,000 from our Manchester support alone, never mind those who live elsewhere. City have pulled away from our Manchester support in my opinion though. I think the City boardroom are more interested in getting people from anywhere else into our corporate areas than they are interested in getting our local fans into the normal seats.

16,000 season tickets at Bayern are priced at €170, Liverpool price all child Premier League matchday tickets in every stand at £9 and they give discounts to people with an L postcode… those two clubs seem to understand and want to look after their local fans but City and United don’t.

This new stand has the opportunity to look after us though. Cheaper tickets and priority to those with an M postcode would be brilliant. But will they understand this?
If the likes of Stockport County and West Didsbury and Chorlton continue to grow and offer people a more grassroots experience than they will get in the PL they will take away people who would have been Blues, just as Salford City will take away people who would have been United fans. Some will follow a small club and a big club no doubt, but in these times the cheaper option will win out for some. Small numbers perhaps, but that's years of recurring income lost.

Don’t think we have to worry too much about west didsbury or chorlton impacting our attendances.

When you think that Old Trafford is serviced by three Metrolink stops very close by that service six different Met lines, a train station, larger more free flowing roads with a Motorway close by and even water taxis on the canal from Sale… and we have just one Met stop that goes in just two directions and the odd buses but with smaller less free flowing roads and no Motorway nearby… someone somewhere at City or TfGM should be thinking ‘if they’re increasing capacity and there’s going to be an arena opening, surely more transport links are required?!’
Maybe if when everyone who fills out the survey on the transport part says that we disagree and that they should build a train hub at the old Mercedes garage , maybe then City would be pressed to act

Please City, don’t name a stand after a player. I love Sergio, but there could be bigger legends than him in 20/30 years time. I like the three statues outside the ground now, but are we going to keep on building them for every great player that leaves the club? Stand namings should be reserved for a few decades.
Name the stand after 3 legends Kompany, Otamendi and Phil, the KOP end
