The Conservative Party

Good points but you can't get away from the facts that a lot of brits are work shy who sponge off the state at the tax payers expense, as its easier to live off benefits.
We have created a system where this is rhe case and it discourages work whilst the tax payer who flogs his / hers guts out and gets treated with contempt.
I heard a story last week from a colleague who told me 8 people applied for a warehouse job, agreed interviews and all of them no showed.
I genuinely think some people dont want to work and its about time the government had them doing something.
It's utterly disgraceful

Ahh a Daily Mail reader

Its coming soon to a town near you

Because ...... Conservatives

Fortunately, if there's one thing I really believe in when it comes to modern Britain, it's that religion has totally lost its ability to influence anything and that will now be nearly impossible to reverse. British people by and large could not give less of a fuck what an old book says. They're not about to build laws around it any time soon.

Once the mask slips, it can't be put back on.

"I think there needs to be more evangelism in this country."

Errr... yeah... no thanks. Think I'll have to pass on that. The Americans can keep their psychosis to themselves.
I take it that the old boy banging on about other people’s sex lives - rather obsessively I thought- hasn’t heard any of the swashbuckling tales of Boris the swordsman and the knob they couldn’t keep down

I wonder how long it’ll take for the Jewish community to understand that the Tories aren’t on our side. Because they’re coming out with shit like this.

Maybe the warehouse job was offering shit pay and treatment of workers. Maybe they got a better offer.

More likely it's just made up.

No it's not made up
So you know absolutely that the person who told you about the 8 people not turning up for the interview is telling the truth?

Is there any other detail? Were the 8 any of people contacted by the propsective employer to check on them to possibly rearrange? Were there 8 vacancies left unfilled or were there a fewer number of jobs than that which were filled by people who did turn up?

This type of story with no context is as useful as the people who tell us asylum seekers get £40k a year and flat screen tellies, i.e. not very.

It's being so cheerful that keeps you going!!

So reading today 5.2 million people claiming benefits and yet over a million job vacancies at the moment?
That is unbelievable, some people genuinely need to be helped I get that but none the less why is it these jobs are not being filled?
State pensions are called a benefit.
As is PIP, a benefit you qualify for even if you are fully employed..

Beware blind data.

Someone was on TV the other day and said there are not enough people in the UK to fill the job vacancies.

You have to bear in mind that:

1. We are really shit at training people, and indeed reluctant to train people, even the likes of sufficient doctors and nurses, as it (shock horror) costs money.

2. Some jobs require qualifications that are relatively scarce. You can't set Dave from the Council Estate with his GCSE in Art (or whatever) on as a brain surgeon or an engineer. Or many other apparently 'lesser' jobs. Again, are we willing to pay to train Dave to the point where he can get a useful job? It costs money, so no.

3. Many of the people not in work are literally unemployable. Most people do not want to employ crackheads and the like, and I don't blame them. OK, you can in theory rehabilitate people but again this costs money. Also, you need scarce specialist labour to do the rehabilitation. The Tory solution of cutting benefits simply turns these people to crime, or to more crime than they already do.

4. Probably some disabled people could work who don't but once again, it costs money to provide for their specialised needs and 98% of employers just can't be arsed. In theory, you are supposed to make 'reasonable adjustments'. Yeah, right. If the Government invested in these people in a positive way instead of slashing their benefits on a random basis, you might see a change.

5. A very large proportion of the population (in historic terms) is retired. This comprises all the people above pension age (bar for a small minority of very keen types, or people with insufficient pensions) plus all those above about 50 who have decided they have sufficient income (from whatever source) to fuck work off. This includes many with private pensions. As a retired person myself, I can tell you that nothing would persuade me to work again, beyond the small amount I do on my own account when I choose. Not £500,000 a year, let alone a few paltry tax advantages. Absolutely nothing. Many are of similar mind, not least because Covid made them realise that working is not all that and that other things matter more.

As a country, we need to up our game, and in particular, we need to massively improve the education system (note improve, not try to replicate Eton in 1911) and invest hugely in training and career development. And when you've done that, and turned as many jobs as possible over to robots, my guess is we shall still need substantial immigration. Like it or not.

'For ’tis the sport to have the engineer
Hoist with his own petard;' (Shakespeare).

Not the least of my objections to modern Tories is that they are fucking hypocrites. On a massive scale, and quite unabashed about it.

I am fast coming to the conclusion that anyone wanting public office is unfit for it and that Parliament should not be elected but filled by random conscription, on a basis similar to ERNIE. We could scarcely do worse.
